i\'m still in the planning process, but any idea what kind of times i\'d be getting with the gm fast burn 385 crate engine? it\'s 385 hp and 385 ftlbs, but i\'d probably put in a cam and racing heads. it says with a cam it would be around 425 hp. anybody had any experiences with this engine? i\'m open for any good or bad comments about the engine. here\'s the info on the engine (http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=4230&prmenbr=361)

If you are going to change the cam and heads, I wouldnt lay out the dough to buy the Fast Burn.......

the fast burn has the heads that would be best bang for the buck. by just changing the cam you get a considerable power gain. dont chance the heads on that motor.
you could easily see 12\'s with the 385 and possible 11\'s with the cam all depending on traction.

What do you plan to use it for? Daily driver? street racer? 1/4 mile? When I built the engine for my sblazer 4x4 I built it to work. All Edlebroc items set up to make seruous HP! But not at 4-5000 rpm. At idle to 3500 rpm. The cash I spent was well worth it!!! The 82 2wd I bulit to play with on fri & sat nites. It was destroked and built to spin 7000 rpms!!! 4:11 posi-gears with t350 manual valvebody.
Personaly I rather have a reputable engine shop work with me on an engine rather than buy a crate motor. I know excatly what I\'m paying for.

it won\'t be a daily driver, it\'ll be my toy. maybe some drag racing for fun

If I t were I making the plans, I would go with a destroked 350! Large bore short stroke able to run high rpms and be fairly reliable. The last one I built this way cost me @ $1600. 100-engine (4bolt) 500 @ machine shop. including the head work. @1000 thrugh summit & jegs. I never had it dyno\'d but it would pull the FL wheel off the ground when it hooked up. This engine wasalso in my RA TA for a while for strxxt racing. It would pull the FL wheel off the ground and that car weighed 3500lbs! Won most of the time. At $100 per run I couldn\'t afford to loose to often. Ricers started to double & triple in scene. NOS juice and 1200lb cars are no match for heavy rwd unfortunatley.
Keep us posted on your decision!

does the $1600 include fuel intake?

You could always just get the ZZ4 short block if your looking to replace the cam and heads and save some cash.
The LT4 HOT cam kit in the fastburn motor should be 430+ hp.

I love my fastburn 385 I have the hot cam and 1.6 roller rockers If I can ever get the carb tuned right and traction plus a tranny worth a heck I should get to easy 12s. Never any problems with mine and I reved it up to 7000 grand on the highway with 4.10s at the time and a th350 and never stoped pulling and that was against a 02 ws6 ramair TA took him on top end!!!!! I guess he hit the rev limiter.

I did buy a fuel pump-@ $50. I had the intake. An inexpensive intake you can buy on Ebay. Sometimes you can buy a new one for $130 or buy on ebay for @ $75.
