Carburetor, unlite distributor machanical advance. Where are you guys running your timing?

Is there mechanical advance only? If so I think that this will cause you some driveability (light to part throttle) issues. I have my timing with auto tranny at 12 BTDC at 700RPM. (stock HEI dist) I also have vacuum advance. How much total timing do you have and what RPM does it come in?

I\'m running an MSD dist with no vacuum advance and it seems fine on the street. Vacuum advance is good to have if you\'re concerned about gas mileage. I\'m running 20 degrees of mech. advance in the dist. and 16 degrees initial. 36 total. If you\'re running mechanical advance you can always fine tune your advance curve with weights and springs. With vacuum you don\'t have as much control.

yup purely mechanical advance...idle timing is set at 16 BTC. the max advance is running somewhere around 28 and comes in above 3000. it was set at 12 and the vacuum was week at idle as well as the top end was week. now have more top end and the low end response is better. haven\'t had a chance to take it back to the track to see is my 60\', 330\' and 1/8 trap times have improved...and there is some mid throttle driveability issues
