View Full Version : To swap or not?

I have a 91 S-10 with the 2.5L 4 cylinder that I really would like to put a LT1 6speed in it\'s place. However, after reading a post at another S-10 forum, I am doubting my ability to do it. So, I have come here to ask ya\'lls advice.

Is this something that a couple of decent mechanics (me and a friend) can accomplish? If so, how long can I assume it will take and how much $$ can I expect to spend? I figure 2-3k for the engine/trans combo with the ECM. Then I should just have to figure out the wiring. Which, on eBay, I\'ve seen wiring harnesses available that disable VATS, and whatever other sensors you want disabled.

Whadda ya\'ll think?

TIA,

-Pete

it would be easier to go with a non lt1 engine, but to each his own, but is does take more than a weekend or two. and the money part is up to you

I\'ve heard that the LT1 isn\'t the easiest either. However, what are my other options? A Vortec 350 or a TPI 350? I need to stay emissions legal.

your best bet would to find a donor vehicle that has the entire set up you want. that way you can take what ever you need off it. the best place to find something like that is at a junk yard. also is ur s10 tbi?

Yeah, the only thing that can be a pain is the wiring. Everything else would be about the same as a reg V8. The 6 speed may be a headache also.

Yes, it is a TBI. Does that open up my options for the Vortec 350?

that just means that if you want port injection, there will be more wiring than if you stayed with the tbi set up

LT1 or LS1 are going to be much more difficult. If I were you I\'d just swap a regular 350 and if you want the luxury of fuel injection then get the whole setup out of a wrecked car or truck. It\'s not a real difficult task if you\'re moderately mechanically inclined
