View Full Version : 400 turbo
Could a 400 tranny be used instead of a 350 turbo when swapping a 406 SBC into my 88 s10? Im not looking for the strongest since i wont abuse my truck since its my daily driver. Also do they come with short and long tail shafts like 350\'s?

Yeah, you can. The 400 is stronger, factory. It needs more power to turn than the 350 though. REally only thing you will need is a different inputshaft on the driveshaft. It uses the bigger shaft. I don\'t think that the 400\'s have different tailshaft sizes.

i used the turbo 400 in my truck works great, ya i hate the front part of my drive shaft redone by a shop,
Kool. Will a 400 turbo bolt up as easily as a 350 turbo? Basically no driveshaft mods needed?

Correct me if I am wrong I think the 400s have a 4\" tailshaft. You might have to make your driveshaft longer. Thats my 2 cents.
