ok guys, i keep hearing about how the big block isn\'t that much harder. well what are the major differences between the sbc vs the bbc? the more i think about it, the more i want to put a 454 in it. Oh thats sounds good just thinking about it!!!!! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

I know that there are some folks here that have done or are doing a bigblock swap and say that it is not any harder to do than a small block. But if it were that easy then why aren\'t there any swap kits or any companies doing it? Hookers,Headman, and other major comanies I\'m sure would have some imformation on it and you would see big block S-10\'s all over the place. You can make a big block very streetable and you\'d think they would be plentiful. I have attended the Car Craft Nationals for 6 years in a row and there has only been one show up.
Now I know that 454 will have something to say about this and he has one,as does lowerred, so I don\'t mean to put them dowm.
Stick with a quick reving, high winding small block and have tons of fun.
Good luck sir,
Jeff.....

Are you talking about Street Machine Nationals that were in Ohio last year? Several of my friends and I are planning to go this year, but I can\'t find any information on it yet. Do you know anything about it?
Thanks,
Jeff

what are the benefits to putting in a big block? I just want a daily driver that will blow the doors off a vette. a 454 sound good to me, but in stock form only has 30 more hp than the 350. also what tranny will fit behind it? will i have to redo the whole wiring harness? should i go with a different engine besides the 454? open to any suggestions. i want to join the big block club lol! just trying to get all my facts straight before i get to deep. thanks

The 454 is a good solid engine to start with. The benefit would be simply more cubes to work with. This means more potential power, or it means a less radical engine making the same power (more streetability, more power). The engine itself sits in fine, but it multiplies the little problem we have with smallblocks to a larger scale. Exaust headers/manifolds being one of them.. it\'s also harder to keep those suckers cool.

man some people really know me here...first there is nothing wrong with a small block...my old 327 was a screamer...but i had to turn 7500 to do it...the big block i had went faster than any small block i had and i only shifted it at 5500 rpm....now ,,the big block sit\'s in the same place as the small block does...i used early model hp manifold\'s..and they worked great..i used a full sized 31x18 alimuim radiator..it stayed around 180-195 in mid summer...you do have to use a short water pump for this ..hooker ..heedman..etc..will soon catch on to the header\'s and im sure they will come out will some thing...i plan on build some fender header\'s this spring...i did put manaul brake\'s on mine...cause i have tall valve cover\'s..and it clean\'s up the engtine bay...plus drop about 10-15lb\'s of weight...i really enjoyed the big block...just stab the throttle and at even 1500 rpm or so ..it just fly\'s...the biggest thing i noticed on the big block -small block was that the big block is a lot more expensce than a small block...but the tq of big block is so kool...put a 10-1 piston ..nice head\'s..intake cam carb on the big block and have fun...

The horsepower may be close, but the big block\'s torque will put a small block to shame. Also, a cam that may seem big for a small cube engine is mild in a big block.

why haven\'t any of you guys touched on the subject of the weight difference from big block to small block and how it puts to much weight on the front and as we all know it is hard enough to make a small block hook let alone a big block. don\'t get me wrong big blocks are very cool and I am putting one in my 68 chevelle but it has a little more front to rear weight to handle it.

i have never had traction problem\'s...with any kind of street tire ,..than yea...i keep hearing people say i can\'t hook ..it spin\'s...i can\'t hook it hop\'s..use slick\'s like i do and you will not have a problem...heck with sterrt tire\'s and the ol 2.5 liter motor i had in it when it was stock would chearp 3 rd gear..and spin forever..heck a big block with any car is going to spin with out the right tire\'s

This is why my motor and firewall are set back about 8 inches.

That\'s a good idea. Also battery relocation and maybe spare tire or something would help. I think you guys need to realize that it\'s more about weight transfer than distribution. If you can get all that weight to lean to the back then you will be fine. That\'s why a good suspension setup is even more important than tires or distribution
the difference between a big block and a small block is around 200lbs. I know alot of guys on here who have 200lbs worth of systems, so i know they dont care about the extra weight.
Loweredd had a good idea with setting the motor back, i am going to do the same. The weight ratio on an s10 isnt as bad as everyone thinks, i think the people who complain about this have the open rear still.

i agree, and with having a blazer, the rear weighs a little more than the rear of a regular s10
