What all has to be done to make a 350 into a 383 stroker? I know you have to have the cylinders bored out but what else, and also about how much does it cost to do something like this? One more thing, appoximately what kind of power gains would there be?

Summit makes a 383 kit. The kit comes with crank, rods, pistons, rings, oil pump, bearings and a fel pro gasket set. The kit isn\'t cheap it\'ll run ya $1099.95. Your block must be bored .030\". You also have to have a small base circle cam so it\'ll clear the longer stroke. I have never had a 383 stroker but my dad had one and he won IMCA state championships with it.

Buy the kit, when you get it you dont need a special cam. Your rods will be notched to clear it. You may have to notch the rods a little more if you have a really high lift but not much. The block will need to be notched to clear the rod bolts. Also the oil pan will need to be \"clearanced\" to clear the longer stroke on the crank. But you dont need a special pump either.

About how much gain in power do you get?

You don\'t build a 383 for horsepower you build one for torque. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

if its mostly stock id say no more than 30-50 hp, most 350 come stock with like 225 or so horsepower \"hard to believe\" and in 1971 the 350s had 180 hp and thats about as much as an S10 4.3 today. its funny how some people will say yea i got 300 hp when all they usually have is a basicallly stock motor, maybe a K&N air filter, and have exhast done. whats that probably 20 hp. but what puts the rubber on the road is torque u want good 1.4 times, just get u some torque and make sure to keep the HP up to and you\'ll have a nice ride

You can expect anywhere from 30-100hp and 50-100lbft depending on how you set the motor up. Just putting a stroker kit in with 9.0:1 compression and stock heads, dont expect more than 35hp and 60lbft of torque. If you do it right and get the stroker kit with a minimum of 10.0:1, decent cam, and a little head work you can see up wards of 100hp and 100lbft of torque. It all depends on your budget and desire for power.

You say that with a lot of torque you can accelerate fast, so does HP determine top end speed or what?

Just think of it like a diesel. Torque gets you going, but horsepower keeps it going.
