I understand that there are two common types of rearends.

4cyl 7 1/2 and 7 5/8

How can i tell the difference?

Did many of the 7 5/8 come with posi?

Any carrier issues when putting 4.10 gears in the 7 5/8 if i plan to use a full spool?

Are any of the camaro axels or parts compatable? (posi, disc brakes, whole axels?)

I just converted mine over to 75/8.

I was able to use my housing and the bigger carrier went right in, the only difference i found was the axles themselves the 7.5 have 26 spline and the 75/8 has 28 spline.

I\'ve found that plenty of s10s came with posi especally the 4x4s. If you find a 4wheel drive blazer with a 2.5 4 cyl. ( I have had three for parts and they all had 4:10 gears.)

Just remember the 4 wheel drive axles are wider. I\'m not sure what year they came out for sure but the oldest blazer was 86.

You can gut any 7.5/8 axle for parts including

Grand national, Camaro, Fire bird, Olds. cutlass etc.

I hope I haven\'t left any thing out.

the older t-type buicks(78-84)are the only ones to have the 7.5 rear end,the 85-87 came with the 8.5 rear with 3.42s. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Right after I posted my last reply My buddy was over. The time we were talking about the rear end and rebuilding mine our conversations were crossed with the disscusion of 3 or 4 different cars.

Im sorry but whitethunder is right they do have 8.5s.

They started the 7 5/8\" rear in the S10s when they released the 4.3 which was 1/2way through 1988. As you read in a previous post, the 7 1/2 had 26splines and the 7 5/8\" have 28splines (which can hold up to the V8s).

Or if you can get real lucky I believe some of the early 90s 4.3 5speed trucks came with a 8.5. Like I said kinda rare, most had 75/8 but scrounging the junk yards may find one.

Sombody said in a previous post that the 4x4 axel in the rear are a little wider?

How much, and what rearends are out there other than s-10 axels that have similar widths or smaller that will handle the power????

Also when i set up the rear supension do i need all the leafs????? I don\'t plan to haul anything in my bed except a fuel cell and battery. Would i be better going to one leaf and putting adjustable coil overs for adjustmenet?????

Any experence out there??
