someone told me that you have to raise the body off of the frame on a 97 Sonoma in order to get to some bolts on top of the tranny. is this true? also do I need to remove my whole front end to get the engine out and the new one in? Help a brotha out!
thanks

the upper tranny bolts can be a pain to change, but you shouldn\'t have to raise the body. I put my motor and tranny in at the same time, but i have changed countless engines and trannys in my life. If your fairly new at this the front clip can be removed fairly easily, but is time consuming.

yes some newer style s10s it helps to raise the body a few inches to remove bellhousing bolts i work at a gm dealer and this is how we have done it in the past not as hard as it sounds

Just unhook the two caps that hold the drive line to the rear end.. push the drive line in towards the tranny and the back should drop down. slide it out. Unhook all the tranny sensors and drop the crossmemeber. just take the tranny out with the motor. way easier than just undoing the bellhousing bolts.
when I started my swap, I just took off the bellhousing bolts and removed the motor from the tranny. I will tell you right now, that was 4-5 hrs of wasted time when i could have just unbolted the driveline and crossmember and slide it all out in one piece.
