Right now I dont know to much about electrical systems and need some help as to what stuff to buy when a converting to a 350. Could some one tell me EVERYTHING that requires starting a carbed 350 in a s truck that originaly had a 4.3L and 700R. I will continue using the 700R I just need to know what will be required as far as wiring harness, plug wires, ignition, etc. I just confused so if someone can help me out I would REALLY appreciate it. ignition wire, plug wires, alt wires, starter wires.

as far as the trans i think there is a wiring kit for it, check the trans and elec forums.

Trust me, the easiest way to do it is spend 300 dollars and buy a Painless Wiring harness from Jegs or Summit. They are easy to install, you will learn how it all works, and you will only have the wires that you need for a carb\'d vehicle.

the apinless harness is great but why spend 300 bucks when you can just go to a wrekcing yard and trade them your ecm and stock wiring harness for a carb\'d wiring harness... it plugs right into your fuse block and works great... just make sure the harness isn\'t cut anywhere or wirs missing... you might even get a little extra cash out of the deal for the ecm or they might give ya a good deal on something else ya need... your stock rad should work fine too.. i am runnign a stock 4.3 rad in mine and it runs 180-190 all day

Mike is correct in that all you need is the starter, alt, and one wire for the dist. The one thing you\'ll also need to need to remember is that your truck was more than likely injected and you\'ll have to find the wire for the fuel pump and run a regulator to keep the pressure down to 4-7 psi. Check summit for the kit for the lock up convertor. Lot easier than you think. If an old fart like me can do it....anyone can!

Save the $300 on the painful wiring harness, and put it some where you need it.

Good luck on your venture,

Jeff.....

Just going in and cutting wire with out knowing what your doing. Remember that the topic is \"Im Lost\".....meaning that he needs help to get it going CORRECTLY, and that he doesnt know a whole lot about electrical systems. If he goes in and starts just cutting wires out that \"people\" tell him he does\'nt need, he\'ll have more problems than he started with. Even if he does get out the stuff he needs too he will more than likely end up with and untraceable short in the system somewhere....Which really sucks and is a Big Ass hassel. You cant cut corners just to save a few bucks, which will probably end up getting spent on Alternators, Batterys, and fuses if you dont do it right. I went through this with mine for about 4 months after people told me to just \"cut out what you dont need\". It\'s not that i cut the wrong stuff, but its just that your taking the risk of leaving a bare wire or open circut somewhere and NEVER finding it again.

Just do it right and get it over with now. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Cut out the wiring. Make good connections, use heat shrink.

i think painless is like insurence and is a good and easy way to wire up your investment after putting all that work and money into

Painless wiring is really a good investment if your wiring is screwed up from people hacking on it over the years. i had a customer come in the shop with a 85 s-10 with a 350/350 set up. his wiring was trashed from the guy he bought it from. i put a painless wire kit into it. man it was sweet. all the wires are labeled to where it goes. can\'t get no easier than that.

Hackin over time is what all of these trucks that are getting from the guys that are just cutting out what is not needed......Over time it will have problems.
