Has anybody seen the show on the discovery channel where they build the street racing cars. It was kind of a build off. Well they had this girl come in there with a Honda Civic and this other guy with an Eagle Talon.

I have to say it was the gayist show ever. I like imports but these people where retarted. They fit the import stereotype too much. The first part of the show was kind of cool. The girl had a SOHC and they swapped the motor in with a DOHC. They were welding, grinding, modding, and doin cool stuff to it. They basically did some of the stuff people do with muscle cars. And I have respect for that.

The second guy was a deusch bag. He bought an AWD Turbo Eagle Talon. It\'s a nice car and is a good platform for modding. But all they did was put nitrous on it. I don\'t consider it cheating but you would figure if you were on a TV you would do something a little more.

Well they had a 30hour time limit. And at the end they raced at a 1/8 track. The civic ran a 9.8. Or somewhere in there. The talon with a 125 shot of nitrous turned a 8.1. That\'s not all that fast to me. A 9.8 in the 1/4 is like a low 15-high 14. I thought it was a waste of time. I would of prefered that they did something to a Supra or Rx7. But whatever.

Yeah I watched that show tonight and it was very dissappointing. For one thing, they were supposed to have a build off sort of thing and the girl with the civic posted all of her info on the net and gave away everything that they did. Then the guy with the talon just had his shop put on a bigger shot of nitrous and a new hood. It was horrible the way they had no regard for parts breaking on the awd car and how he broke an axle in the end.

Worst show I have ever seen.

I was trying to figure out how fast those 1/8 mile runs were if they had ran the quarter. High 14s isn\'t really fast - especially for the money involved in that swap. A bit disappointed here, too.

I thought it was going to show \"real\" street racing. And I guess it was good they did it legally but I hated the Talon guy. I don\'t consider Nitrous Cheating. If you win you win. That\'s the way I look at it. But if I was on the Discovery channel I would do something more than just putting Nitrous on. I\'d be putting in Twin Turbo Rotary motors with a 250 shot of Nitrous. Changing Cams and other stuff.

That is why I liked the Girls car better. Even if it was slow. At least they did something. They changed in a whole new motor. And the car didn\'t look that bad either. Even with the stickers. They were welding, grinding, and doing stuff to it.

On OCC Vinny installed 2 bottles of nitrous on Paul\'s prowler and it only took up 5 minutes of the show.

I think it was on at 9 last night. Watch the first part where they work on the Civic. As soon as you see them go to the talon flip the channel because it sucks from there.

The worst part about the ricers is that weather you like it or not, there the future of \'Hot Rodding\'. The sports vehicle is not rwd anymore. Remember, in the late 60\'s and early 70\'s the Camaro\'s, Firebird\'s, Mustang\'s very all enco-box cars with fullsize car engines in them. Today, the Firebird and Camaro are considered fullsize cars. Before production stoped, the F-body was a 3500lb heavy car worth $27k and more with options. In the 60&70 it was the cheapest car you could buy almost. Now the ricers are it, unfortunatley, at new price of around $15k, A job at McDonalds won\'t barley even pay for rice, let alone a $30k SS camaro. In ten years, the car the ricers build today will be \'old school\'.

Weather its 8 beats per rev or 4, Remember \"The Heartbeat lives on!\"

I was just saying if you are going to be on TV do something cool. Not what 30% of the cars in my town did.

And yes rides is a bad ass show. Who was the guy that made that Updated version of the GT500

I like rides, but I have some gripes with them too. As soon as something gets technical (a.k.a. interesting) they switch to something shiny. Ticks me off. At least it isn\'t as bad as some other shows. And is it just me, or does OCC seem -->REALLY<-- rehearsed.

But hey, at least it\'s on the east coast.

I hear ya about the rehearsed part - I think the \'interviews\' they do are totally canned. My personal favorite shows are on Spike on the weekend mornings - Popular Hotrodding, Car and Driver, Horsepower TV, and Trucks. Cool subject matter, technical, and entertaining.

I don\'t think they are rehearsed. I think that both of them are true nut cases. Now the producers obviously have there way with the film footage and may make it seem rehearsed. What would make OCC more interesting is if they told the prices on those bikes and parts.

Remember the fireman bike and the divinci carburater. 3000 man hours and they won\'t make another one again. I bet that cost more than the bike

The only part I really think is rehearsed is when they get them alone to talk with the camera. Seems like they\'re reading from a cue card. It seems like they\'re dubbing some stuff in this season, too.

They gave the price the guy paid for the \"race bike\", I think it was $150,000. But I would bet that the Snap-on bike was way more than that.

They probably gave it to Snap-on for free. Well I seriously doubt it but I think Snap-on gave them a billion dollars worth of tools. Which is basically saying with snap-on prices they gave them a toolbox and a socket set.

spike tv sucks too that gay ass civic with 198 hp to the front wheels ohh man is that gay and i dont think civics are the future of hotrodding GM and even Dodge are starting to do some cool cars anyone check the prototype srt8 charger?

miah
02-11-2004, 07:49 PM
hot rodding is usually cheaper cars that people can afford to upgrade. i dont know about you but my janitor job isnt going to buy me one of those srt8s. As much as i hate it, sport compacts are the future of hot rodding.

Now how can i get a big block to fit into a civic hatch........

I know. I wasn\'t saying I would specifically put a roatary motor in. I would just do something worth being on tv for. Like maybe changing a cam in a v-tech motor or something. Does that sound better. Or put a v8 in it
