i\'m no expert, but i\'d say good traction can almost be better than more hp...assuming that you have traction problems

depending on what kind of heads you have if you get them machined somewhat cheap, nice port job and polishing shouldnt cost but a couple hundred bucks. with the extra cash look on ebay for a new cam and lifter set. you can find em cheap. get the heads flowed at the shop and match the cam to it. youll haul ass at that point.

For $500 you could almost buy a set of Vortecs, but you would also need an intake then. You cant quite buy a Posi/gear/bearing set for that price, but you are close. For just over $800 you could buy Vortecs, an intake, and a cam, and turn that engine into a screamer.

Depending on what gears you have putting in 3.73 gears from say a 3.08 is like adding 100hp, but you need posi as well to take advantage. I know because with no posi, 350hp and 3.73 gears my tires go up in smoke with a light foot.

this is what I\'m in the process of buying:
Vortec Heads (with high performance Z28 valve springs w/ light weight LT4 retainers, good for about 0.550\" lift)
CompCam XE-268H cam
here\'s the link for the heads:

i would go with a similar cam but go with a bigger grind to smoke the ponies. somewhere in the range from 272 to 292. the only problem is when you go over the 278-280 range you should install a higher stall convertor. a cam kit is around $120. then you still have money left over for an inexpensive convertor and/or a decent intake-carb setup.
traction helps get you started but you need the power at the end of the track to stay ahead of the ponies.

Id be going for the posi and gears, depending on your ratio now ( assuming that you are beating a stang now ) you may gain a better et and mph in a quarter with just the diff work and then its there for when you build some more power. All the power in the world doesnt amount to sqaut if you cant put it to the ground and stick it !!!!! Just my 2cents

A big gear change can be worth .5-1 second ib the quarter, so it is usually a huge bang-for-the-buck upgrade. But, without an overdrive it makes the truck much less driveable, turning a lot more rpm on the highway.

pro topline is marketing vortec heads on ebay for under $500 with all the work put into em already. ported, screw in studs, etc. you can get the intakes off ebay cheap too. get a zz4 cam. also, upgrade your exfibulator.
