THIS IS MY FIRST SHOT AT PARTICIPATION HERE. VERY EXCITED TO BE PART OF THIS FINE, UPSTANDING, LAW ABIDING GROUP! (was that too much or not enough?)
ANYWAY...DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH ONE OF THE LOW PROFILE BLOWERS SUCH AS THE 144ci OFFERED FROM SUMMIT?
MY PLANS ARE FOR A 400+ cid ENGINE.THIS IS MY FIRST ATTEMPT AT BUILDING A STREET BOUND BRUISER SINCE MY 355/350 VEGA MANY YEARS AGO.
I AM SOITENLY ENJOYING S10V8.COM...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

i believe trucky has a smaller blower under a 2\" cowl hood. or check www.cardomain.com/id/trucky i believe is his addy

I believe hes got the 144.
Or go with a centrifical, mines all under the Hood.

yes i do have the 144, it is a great blower and i have run some impressive times with my street tires and only 4 lbs of boost. there is not enough room under the stock hood for the blower and the air filter, you will have to go with at least a 2 inch cowel hood. I have a 2\" Harwood cowel hood and a 14\" by 3\" tall airfilter with drop base and the filter is like 1/2\" from hitting the hood. i am currently running 7 lbs of boost and plan on running in the 11\'s this year. since my last run i have put more boost to it as well as a MSD 6BTM ignition and a 750 Blower Preped Mighty Demon carb. i also will have some drag radials as well as traction bars to help out my 2.0 60\' from last year. if you have any specific questions feel free to ask me!

vortec makes anice centrifugal supercharger, but you have to have a holley 4150 or a demon carb to run it. It is low profile.

oh and you can look at the vortec setup inside the summit book.

i would not even think of getting a vortec, they are expensive and will need fabrication to make them work, they do not come complete! if anything i would stick with the roots but if you want a hair dryer, go for the ATI they are a better unit and are intercooled for more hp. another draw back to the centrifugal blowers is that the boost rises with rpm like a turbo so it isnt there all the time like the roots style.

How does a roots blower not increase boost with rpm but a centrifugal does? They\'re both driven by the crank.
Someone please educate me.
I always thought there was more potential for power production with the centrifugal blowers like the ATI prochargers.

Roots bklowers have more potential for power in non-intercooled set ups because it is a direct shot straight into the engine, and they usually flow more cfm. But, it is a lot easier to intercool a centrifugal, which is where their power advantage comes in.

i believe that it has to do with the way that they make the boost. the centrifigul blowers make more boost as the rpm increases, at idle and wide open throttle the boost will be low, around 4 lbs and then build pressure as it spins faster to say 10 lbs at 6000 rpm, where as the roots blowers make nearly the same boost at all rpm. my blower for instance will make slightly lower boost at low rpm (6lbs) but within a lb of boost from the max point(7lbs), this is due to the huge volume of air per revolution that the roots has over the centrifigul.

Roots will usually make more power in the lower rpms, because of the higher boost at lwer rpms. They also tend to create more heat than a centrifical, and usually require lower compression. Lower boost is usally standard on them.
Centrificals fit under the hood. Will usually let you run higher compression than roots at the same psi.
Centrificals usually have some type of release vavle. Where under regular driving, the motors like stock. Under wot, it closes, and boost is there, and hold on.
Centrificals will usually offer higher boost levels, and cfm flow. And eat up less hp than a larger roots. As said, intercooling is a much easier optioin with a centrifical.
I think it was HOT ROD that did a boost shoot out a few motns ago. Turbo vs. centrifical vs. roots. All right around 9.5 psi on the same motor. Centrifical make more average hp, and make more peak. Turbo make most TQ, and average tq, and very close to the peak/average hp.
The roots was a smaller blower, I think a 177. It came in last in every catagory. Im sure a larger would hve been more comparable, like a 6-71 or 8-71 but the turbo was a smaller, and the vortech one of hte bottom of hte lines. Those are also huge, and won\'t fit under any hood.
If your looking for a centrifical, ProCharger. Roots arent bad, but a cheap procharger will out power a 144 most anyday. A 177 won\'t fit under a good looking cowl hood. I did some measuring and I\'d need a 4\" cowl to come close. Anything bigger than 2.5\" looks like crap IMO.

THANKS FOR YOUR INSIGHT, FOLKS.
LOTS OF THINGS TO PONDER.
I\'LL BE RUNNING ALL MOTOR FOR AT LEAST TILL THE END OF THE SUMMER, SO I HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO GET MY PLAN TOGETHER.
I LOVE THIS FORUM!!!!!!!!!

Oops..Sorry!
Hey guys, dont worry about the centrifical takeing RPM to boost , they are all in relation to crank pulley RPM RATIO( roots or otherwise ) Change the ratio and the boost will happen faster as long as there is enough load to support it, you just dont want to overspeed either blower for obvious reasons as well as over heated boost doesnt help you.I have 8psi and its all in at 2000rpm if I want it, but on the down side, I have a 52k rpm impeller speed at 5500 which is a little high !

where can you get these blowers? are the basically bolt on... and about how much more HP can u expect? http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif Thx

you can get them at summit or jegs... they are a direct bolt on as long as you have V pulleys and lots of room infront of the engine... also will need at least a 2\" cowel i know that the kit says it will add around 100 hp to a stock small block..... i know with my engine i will be in the mid to low 11\'s with traction and 7lbs of boost!

whuts the best priced one out there?

i think they are like 1800-2200
Hey guys, on the topic of installation, yes they are easy to put in but tuneing is not that easy. You cant just install it and it and go. You have to change fuel mixtures and timing curves ( depending on your application ) to get all you can out of it...

I had 4 day\'s on the dyno when we tuned my engine. Starting at 8psi going up to 28psi there are \"MANY\" thing\'s to change and keep track off when your doing that kind of stuff, that\'s for sure

This is some good reading, great opinions on all! The blower I have is 144 B&M roots. I\"m very happy with the results and power the blower has. My 60s went from 192s to 160s with the blower and 1/8 times picked up almost a full second. As far as the power band, it\'s there at any rpm. I put this on my engine that had over 100,000 miles on it knowing it would find the \"weak\" spot in the engine. Had a blast till the engine gave out. It was a 8.9 comp engine. With 5 years of street and strip abuse. I\'m building a 406 with the blower, should be a kickass engine. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif As far as the heating issue, my trucks heat increased from running 165 without the blower to 190 with. Good Luck Curly. Holler back at me If I can help. Vern..
