Great site! Thanks for making it, Mike.

First of all, I tried SEARCHING here many times, but I get very frustrated (because i KNOW there\'s a lot of info here that would help me!) because as soon as I hit the BACK button, I get a :

\"Warning: Page has Expired The page you requested was created using information you submitted in a form. This page is no longer available. As a security precaution, Internet Explorer does not automatically resubmit your information for you.

To resubmit your information and view this Web page, click the Refresh button. \"

Is there some way to change my browser security settings or something, or does this happen to everyone??

Anyway-

I jut got a new built-up Vortec 5.7 that I will be swapping into my 98 ZR2 ext cab soon. Here is the specs:

SPECS- (http://pages.villagephotos.com/page.asp?page_id=1265)

Here is a thread on my website about it, which includes some pics:

ZR2USA thread- (http://zr2usa.com/mboard/index.php?act=ST&f=18&t=306&s=06e2fc132585019f4085 25ebc2ad4bae)

If I said I was doing all the work myself, I\'d be LYING...

http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif I have 2 good buddies that will do it along with me- they just put a new motor in my Astro van last summer (a rebuilt 4.3, didnt do a 350 as many have suggested for many reasons...lol). They have many years of auto experience, and between the 3 of us, we have all the tools needed. I have PLENTY of room to do the swap here...but i digress-

I have a few questions and would like to get everyone\'s opinions on what to get (and WHERE to get it) for the following:

Intake manifold (Edelbrock? Stock from junkyard??) Headers (Sanderson make em\' for my truck??) Motor mounts (Energy suspension? Poly bushings??) Radiator (late 80\'s Corvette? This has to go in the \"forward\" position? Will I also need electric fans?) Computer (Where should I send to get reflashed- FASTCHIP?) Oil pan (WHO makes one for this, or will it need to be custom made??)

I know I have a lot more questions about the transmission, rear end, etc, but I dont want to make a NOVEL with my first post http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

I know there is a LOT of info on S10 V8 swaps online..unfortunately (for me), it seems %80 pertain to 1st gen, and of the 2nd gen %20, around %80 are for 2WD...so leaves me with..ahh, forget it- my head hurts already

http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif (I just made those figures up, BTW)

Thanks everyone for listening-

Ok, I now see in the PARTS store here that Sanderson DOES make headers for me:

S10 V8 4x4Headers $284.95

p8-cs11-4x4

Are they available ceramic coated?

I also see the oil pan:

4 X 4 Oil Pan $229.00

p8-16-100

Would I still be able to keep the stock ZR2 skidplate with this pan (which is imperitive)?

Intake manifold needs to be early style (non-Vortec) because of the heads on that motor. Beyond that, it just have to have mounts for carb, TBI, blower, or whatever you decide you need.

Headers you figured out.

Motor mounts you can get here too.

Radiator, use your stock one. It\'s likely to be all you need. I\'ve had better luck with engine driven fans than electric fans. But if you feel a need to have electric fans, set them up as pullers, not pushers.

Someone else will have to jump in and answer the computer and oil pan questions. I don\'t think I\'ve ever seen a ZR2 skidplate.

Take it for what its worth Roger.

Use the stock intake, If you want the stock injection its your only option.

Stealth conversions makes the only v8 oil pan that will fit Zr2\'s, and you can\'t get the extenda kit cuz the 4.3 pan is aluminum and you can\'t weld steel to aluminum. And you can retain your stock skids, there is quite a bit of room between the skid and bottom of the pan.

Also, the Zr2\'s have and use different mounts than a regular 4x4 or 2wd s-10, therefore you need to use the advanced adapters 4.3 to SBC mounting plates, they work in conjuction with your stock 4.3 mounts. You can\'t use the 2.8 mounting kit.

And sanderson headers, sandersons 4x4 fit the best with a 2 inch body lift as I believe you have.

Leave your 4.3 rad in the stock position if you want to, flex-a-lite # 210 fans fit on the engine side with no problems.

I\'d have the dealer flash you PCM just so you can work out all the bugs I think I paid like 30 bucks for them to do it for me, then send it to someone like Jarad at Current Performance wiring so he can tune it for YOUR engine after you get all the problems worked out. And you can flash your stock 4.3 PCM for the 350.

If you have anymore questions I\'m sure I can help you out, Being there are differences in Zr2\'s and regular s-10\'s. And I\'m sure there arn\'t anyother zr2\'s on this board with a v-8.

Paul

What are you talking about, His motor has Vortec heads.

Did you even read the first few lines in that auction?

CHEV 350/325HP L31 Vortec 1996-2000 Hi Performance Balanced Engine with Pro Lightning heads

STOCK COMPUTER COMPATIBLE!

1996-2000

This L31 Vortec 350 engine is an EXCELLENT mild performance engine to wake up that old, tired 5.7/350 powered pickup truck, Suburban or Blazer. This engine has a smooth idle and will work with the stock computer. This engine will fit earlier carbureted and TBI applicatons if you use the correct intake manifold.

It clearly states that it is for a 1996 - 2000 application to replace a 5.7 vortec L31 motor. Where did it say that the heads weren\'t vortec?

From the first paragraph of the description \"This engine will fit earlier carbureted and TBI applicatons\". If you read it quickly and have never seen aftermarket Vortecs from anyone besides Edelbrock, then with 64cc heads it sure sounds like an early style head. Until I laid an intake manifold on, I wouldn\'t be sure of anything.

The heads are Pro Topline (but 96+ stock intake will fit on them):

Thanks for the info Paul-

I thought that the stock fan will be too CLOSE when using the stock radiator?? I always assumed that this is why they use the late 80\'s Corvette radiators- because they are thinner and provide more room between the fan and the radiator?? http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

My fan is close, but it works well. I can still get my hand and a wrench in to get it on or off. MikeK or someone who has both radiators to compare will have to tell you about the thin part.

That\'s a good link to Pro Topline. I am familiar with their early style heads, particularly for racing applications, but never knew they made a late-model stock replacement.

Good luck with your project. It should be a lot of fun when you\'re done.

i used the vette rad in mine and put it in the stock location so i could run a flex fan. works great. i got like an inch and a half of clearance. go look at my pics you can see it.

Your motor will be close to the flex-a-lite fans but it will not hurt your cooling, mine are right up in there and I never have overheated once, or got it over 210.

As far as the intake you want to go with...

Do you want to deal with the CPI wiring issues..or go carbed? Im in the process of doing a 98 vortec 350 in my 92 4.3tbi s10...I went with a conversion intake manifold off of sdpc.com to make things alot easier on me [just wish I had known they also carry a TBI intake manifold..Id be done with the swap by now]. But the choice is yours..and if you want a stock intake with the injector spider and all that good jazz...I happen to have a 65,xxx mile intake laying around [the one I replaced with the carbed intake mani]..There really isnt any option as far as a performance CPI unit that I know of...
