i seen on the jtr website about changing the tailshaft from a cable driven tranny to using the tailshaft out of a 4L60E with the speed sensor and gear. i\'m using the 700r4 out of an \'86 firebird which is cable driven. i know my 94 is electronic. i\'m changing to individual guages. if i use a mechanical speedo from autometer and the original cable from my car, will that work instead of switching the tailshafts?

Yes it should if your changing the whole speedometer and setup to mechancial. As long as the speedo is mechancial to I don;t see why not.

You\'ll have to determine what gear combination you need at the transmission to make the speedo read correctly. TCI transmissions has a lot of info on how to figure this out. You need rear end ratio, tire diameter, etc. to figure this out.
don\'t forget you will have to wire up your lock up converter, My 86 TA had a VSS, are you sure about the year? Don\'t forget that some ABS systems use the VSS for the signal. I can\'t remember for the 94. You may have to use the electronic/mechanical VSS for your project.

you were correct about vss. the ta did have a vss on the tranny so that will make everything a heck of a lot easier to work with
I just change my 700r4 cable to a sensor, It was not a problem. I just took off the gear and used some brass to put on the sensor ring on they have another name for it, and also change out the cable sensor to a eletric sensor.
