speedometer/odomter stop working

i have a 700r4 behind my 4.3 and im goin down the road, and i look at how fast im going, and \"what the hell where is the needle!!!\" that quit working and the odometer is stuck at 36.8 miles and hasnt chaned either what do i do?

I guess ya should start from the tranny and work ya way up to the dash to solve the problem, look for broken wires, cables etc... if all that look ok then maybe something broke in the tranny. or the speedo in the dash is broke.

my first guess would be that the speedo cable broke or came undone..

I have a 700r4 and the same thing happened to me and it was the speedo gear inside the tranny. The gear was not put inplace right and the plastic gear stripped.

That would be fine but a \'91 700R4 has an electric sender fro the speedo. My guess is a loose wire on the tranny or in the back of the cluster. Whack the dash a few times while driving and see if it comes back. I\'ve had this problem for years with my \'90 full size Chevy and I just smack the dash everytime the speedo disappears.
