My buddy has a 265 sittin in his shed, he says it came out of his nova(he tossed it in favor of a 396)but originally it was in some car from about 1980. I know its not a power house but its free. its not for me its for my cousin who doesn\'t have a butload of money but he has a 84 2-door blazer and hes getting a th350 for free. So he was wondering if this thing was even worth putting in his blazer, right now its got a 2.8 in it. My question is how hard would it be to get 250hp outof this thing? I mean would a nice intake/cam/carb/port-polish job do it or woulod you have to go deeper than that?

Any general information would be greatly appreciated...thanks guys

Free is a GOOD thing!!! The 265 came in malibus, montes and novas. They only put out around 100 hp. (I think) The pistons are tiny. They get great gas mileage but do have some toqure to get the truck moving a WHOLE lot better than any six would. Besides down the road, in the future, you\'d have everything needed to put a bigger small block in.

I believe I was told that if you use the 265 heads you will bump the compression on a 350 up 2 points. I was alos told they have smaller valves. Don\'t quote me though I heard this from a guy who\'s in to Fords.

The 265 has a rather useful crank, if you are into strokers.... look it up 265stroke X 400ci (or 350ci ) bore = waaa-zing!

I think you are refering to the 55-57 or so 265 correct. A very good engine in it\'s day. Would SCREAM like mad. It also does not have ANY side mount holes in the block. So wouldn\'t work to good in the S-10. If you are reffering to the \"267\" of later yeaars....keep on walking!

Just my opion sir,

Jeff.....

Don\'t waste your time with a 265 ci it\'s a junk motor and it will cost more to rebuild than a 350

is the 267 a dog motor? I believe its a 265, but I can\'t understand how he would have it in his nova if it had no side mounts....if it were a 267 how DOG is dog?

Well, a 4.3 liter V6 translates as 262 cubic inches. That ought to be some sort of clue. Never had one myself. Had several 283\'s way back when, and liked them. If nothing else it\'s good for proof of concept and makes it real easy to do a swap to a bigger motor later. Enjoy.

the 265 is a small journal motor I wouldn\'t waste any money on it when you can pick up a 350 for very little coin.

Do not throw this motor away if it really is a 265 chevy v8. For somebody doing a restoration to original conditions of middle 50s or early 60s chevy that originally had one and needs a 265 small block chevy v8 it\'s worth some money. There are not very many around. 283s you can find, but 265s are not that common.

even scrap the heads, I have a lot of people asking about no power after bolting for example 305 heads on a 350. Yes it increases a little compression but they do not breath. So basically its like having the best of everything on the engine but running a restrictor plate under the carb.
