Just wonder what year engines we all using. Gm made the small block since 1958 I believe. I have used several different engines in the conversions I\'ve done.
My blazer has had a 78 305 malibu engine and now its a 79 k3500 engine. The 83 I built had a 70 chevlle 350. And the others were 84 and 85 camaro engines.
Just figured I ask. Space. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

They started making them in 1955- wow what a long time! I am using a 95 small block because it is roller cam ready with 4 bolt mains. I have a few others laying around, my next one will be a mid-70\'s 400 4 bolt block that I have in the garage.

55, I should have known that. I had a 55 chevy with a 265. I believe the first year with a spin on filter was 65? The older ones had the wet canister type. If I remember correctly. No I really am not that OLD! 70\'s!

All the 1988 and later blocks were set up for the roller lifter retainers and thrust plate. All the passenger cars were pretty much roller cam and all the truck were hydraulic flat, but had roller cam provisions with 4 bolt mains.

Been there, done that. It hurts too much to do it more than once! Its definitly too costly. I had a 71 TA, The main reason I needed a pick up was to hual around the replacement motors!

Mine? ZZ-4 partial block, couple years old.
...........
Actually, in 1955 for a 265, the oil filter was OPTIONAL!! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif (I\'\'m pretty sure) and then, remotely mounted..... no place for a filter on the block. A block like that probably worth a few $$.
