I\'m in the process of installing the complete engine/tranny/ECM from an 89 Formula into my 86 S-10. I talked to a local tranny guy and he said he can swap parts from the V6 t5 into the V8 version to make it fit with mods to mounts. My plan is to use this truck as a daily driver and keep the power under 300HP. Has anyone performed this swap over and if so what kind of problems did you run into. My plan is to freshen up the internals during the \"rebuild\" if needed, but I do know the V8 tranny has been well taken care of by the previous owner of the Formula. I bought it from a long time friend. Any info would be helpful before I get into the swap over.

Unless the T5 from the V6 is a world class, it wont work. It should just be a regular T5, which has different bearings. Although there is a possibility that the Firebird T5 is not world class either. Anyway, he may be able to just switch the extension housing but that depends on a few other things like speedo location.

i am using a 87 camaro t5 in mine, i swapped the mainshaft and the tailshaft housing from the s10 t5 to the camaro t5. the camaro t5 is a non world class in 87. your 89 may be either one because that is about the time gm switch to the w/c. if you have a world class you will not be able to swap the main shafts but you can still swap the tailshaft to keep the shifter alignment, but you will lose speedo drive gear alignment. you might be better off then finding a non w/c t5 from a v8 car and swapping the s10 t5 parts onto it.

Thanks for the info. I\'m not really worried about a speedo at the present. The VSS is a concern though. I\'ll probably go ahead and keep the WC as it is and reloate the shifter. I want a short shifter handle but the stock location is too far away for that. I guess buckets and a console are in the plan.
