While I have my truck apart, I want to cut the tunnel for the transmition instead of banging the heck out of it with a hammer. Any ideas where and how much to cut and extend? The same areas I would need to pound?
What concerns me the most is I am sure I will need to replce the transmition before I will need to pull the engine. I want to have enough room to pull the trans without using ten foot extensions on the tools.
Added: I plan on using a turbo 350 trans

Sounds like a lot of extra work to me. All I had to do was pound down the lip in the trans tunnel. It took about 10 whacks... I also ran a th350 and used my hands and wrenches to start all the bellhousing bolts.
I even swapped to a 700r4 later without problems. You just have to find the right angle and the right wrench and its easy. Kind of like the first time I changed spark plugs in it, took an hour(#8 ugh). By the third time I had done it, it only took me 15 minutes.
Anyways, We have a 10 sec S-10 at my peformance school that they cut out the tunnel I can get pics of if you need....

Pictures would be great. Even if I need to cut just a little, I want to do it.

I thought about it, but decided against it, if you do cut it, you\'ll probably have to do something about the throttle, I beat mine up a bit and then the throttle wouldnt go all the way to the floor. and I agree with TruckMan, the first time you remove it will be a biatch, was for me, but the second time(saturday) I had it out in 1.5-2 hrs.

If you look a little closer to the firewall at the bottom there is Rivets. And if you cut it I think the Firewall will split away from the tunnel and then you would have a big hole that would need to be welded.
Just my 2c.
