I was planning on going with gloss black spray paint on my engine block. Duplicolor makes engine enamel good to 500 degrees or something. Anyone used this with good results? Any other suggestions: different color, different paint, should i use some kind of primer, etc?? When i paint it, do i tape off the machined surfaces, or just wipe them off before the paint dries, or...? My truck is white body, blue interior, all black under the hood, and most of the frame. only chrome i bought is valve covers and timing chain cover. maybe a chrome air filter housing too.

I\'ve got the Duplicolor Flat Black (black goes with everything while looking pretty sick and it seems like good paint. Got it at AutoZone, When i Painted my motor i cleaned it real good and masked all the machined Surfaces, I would guess thats the best way to do it?!?!? Once again I haven\'t been able to see how any thing holds up as have run into another issue.

Have a Good one

Nice thing about the black is that you don\'t see oil leaks easily. Just what ver the color you choose make sure you clean the old grease, grime, oilly finger prints off real good. The heat will \"melt\" the oils and the paint will slide off the diryt spots.

I\'ll use a spray bottle with \'true value\' enamel reducer to do the final clean. It dries with no film or residue.

Whatever paint you use do as the others have said and make sure you wipe it down good with either a good enamel thinner or even a laquer thinner of some sort to get it good and clean of all grease and oil. Then probably the next most important step it to use a self etching primer. NAPA sells a ZINC chromate primer in a spray can that works great I just tok my engine out for the first time in six years this weekend and the paint is still on it as though I just put it on yesterday. The cleaning and the primer aree the keys to a long lasting paint job. Do $5 worth of prep and a $100 paint job will look like $5. Get the picture sir?

Good luck sir,

Jeff....

Chevrolet orange is my favorite, but black is can be nice. I like to know of the oil leaks ASAP.

if you can\'t see the oil leaks you can\'t fix them. yellow works great for tracing leaks. I\'ve had black. it helps to cool the engine. I\'ve had classic chevy orange. always nice. I\'ve had Chevy corporate blue. looks too much like ford blue. I now have my BBC painted silver, we will see how it works.

another good way to keep paint from the machined surfaces is to spreed vasoline or grease on them. Afterwards after the paint is dry just wipe the grease off.

I have used a cast iron grey color i the past on my race engines. Looks almost like bare steel. Too bad I can\'t remember the brand of paint. It bugged the hell outta the tech guys, they always were checking for aluminum heads.

That link doesn\'t work, but this one (http://s10v8.com/members/akajoker/Jonathantruck005.jpg) does.

I usually paint everything black, but I like the yellow.

I\'ve never had a bad experience with Dupli-Color paint. The engine enamel levels out real nice. Make sure you get what ever you paint real clean.

I use yellow so I can see the leaks plus when the hood is up it sets the chrome off nicely, the new motor I bought I had my choice of colors and I almost went with purple to be differernt but then it would be as bad as black for finding leaks

I went with Black on this block, have used silver, grey, orange, I like the Black the best. Oil leaks are not a problem if you are always checkin your block. I do after each time i drive it, just my opinion.

I have always used black, they just seem to run cooler for some reason, and look much nicer with chrome, the draw back is the leaks are hard to find, so use fel-pro gaskets, they have never let me down.
