If it is assembled you have to go by casting numbers. Some of the late blocks say 5.0 or 5.7 cast into the block, so you could look for that also.

I bought a 305 (he said it was a 350) It had an 8 on the block, And have 2 350 and they say 10 on them. I don\'t know if this is correct on all blocks just something i found.

I read that the \"010\" on the bock is supposed to represent the amount of nickle in the casting. People used to think that all the 010 blocks were 4 bolt main, but they are not, as far as 305/350, don\'t know.

isn\'t the harmonic balancer different looking sometimes?? The most popular 350 casting number i\'ve run across is 3970010, out of most of the blocks i\'ve checked, a lot of them had this casting number. also 3970014 was a 350.

The balancer difference was between a 400 and other motors, because the 400 is externally balanced and mots others are internally balanced.

The 2 best ways to tell are to:

1. Take off a head and measure the bore to makes sure its 4\"

2. Use the casitng number on the rear of the block and goto www.mortec.com to find out what it is http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
