I\'ve got stock 3.42\'s with my 305/TH350 swap, and i\'ve got a couple people trying to convince me to go to 3.08\'s because i plan on using my truck as a daily driver.
Anyone here have any recommendations/suggestions?

3.42 is nice but you will be around 3000RPM at cruising speed, depending on tire size. the smaller the tire, the more RPMS. The 3.08 will make 2 and 3rd good gears unless you have a torque monster, then even first can be cool. You can probabyl cruise at 2500 or so.

3.42\'s are a very good street gear. I have had them in mine for 13 years now and just love them. Like speeder said you\'ll cruz at 3000 with those gears, but hey...small blocks love to be buzzed and can handle it too. I had a 305/350 once at the little 305 didn\'t mind the rpms.

Hmm.. Well most of my driving will be on the expressway, so i will be doing between 50 and 70mph every day.
I can get any gear combination i want for free, so i am just trying to figure out the best solution to go with.
I\'ve got my engine valve timing advanced as well, so it should also be giving me some additional low end torque.
Any further thoughts?

I\'ve got 3.42\'s in mine and I tach around 3000 at 70 mph with 15 inch wheels. I bought a 3.08 gearset with a posi off of ebay. Before I swap the rear end I\'m going to try a tranny swap to a 700r4. The 3.08\'s would be better for a daily driver but you\'ll lose all the fun of that quick acceleration. Just depends on what you want.

I have the 3.42s and like them. I am running a 25in tall tire and at 55 Im turning about 2300 and at 70, 3000. I get around 16 or 17 mpg if I can stay out of it. (But I can\'t) I wouldn\'t go any lower, numerically or you will lose alot of acceleration that we all love.

I have the 3.42 in my 93. runs low 14\'s, 1.93 60 ft and with the 700R4 I\'m at 2100 to 2200 @ 60 to 65 mph...
