I\'m thinking that the tire used (section width) needs to be factored in to know for sure.

5.5\" is good with a 10\" rim. That will tuck under the fenders.

I had that with my 275/50/15\" drag radials, and measuring the section width, were over 12\" wide.

They fit perfectly.

Well go figure. I once had the exact same tires, and needed 2-1/2\" backspace on an 8\" rim to clear the leafs/chassis, and that\'s with all the junk cut or ground off the chassis. Right now I\'m using 26 X 11.50-15 Hoosier QT Pros, with similar section width and 10\" rims with 4\" backspacing, and it\'s a little too close, I\'m \"polishing\" the chassis in turns.

..........But there\'s a \"BUT\". I\'ve been asking about this here on this BB lately.... my original rear measured 52\" flange to flange, I was told by some that it\'s supposed to be 54\". So I dunno.

That sounds way off. An 8\" rim with 2 1/2\" bs should have been sticking way out. I\'ve never even seen a rim available with so little BS.

The 8\" with 2-1/2\" backspace had to be custom made locally. The guy cut the rim off on each side of the spider and re-welded them on opposite sides. Problem was, then the beauty ring then wouldn\'t hold, but that was an easy fix. My 10\" rims are from \"Wheel Vintiques\", and they make Corvette style rims any width, any backspace, VERY reasonably.

............I had used the truck for years with the original V-6 and stock Corvette 8\" rims but with standard mid 70\'s Corvette tires, and the sidewalls went straight up, section width not much wider than the 8\" rim. The tires with 11 and 12\" section widths killed me.

.............And like I said, I\'m not sure, but it seems like my original rear may have been a couple inches narrower than others, 52\" flange to flange.

..........Oh yeah, and with those backspacings, the tires just marginally clear the leafs and frame.

With 15\" x 14\" wheels and 31 x 16.5 x 15 Hoosier Quick Time DOT Drag tires I use a 7\" back spacing. Of course the fenderwells are 9\" wider and the 9\" Ford rear end narrowed about 25\". LOL.
