View Full Version : Transmission fluid cooler, more then one?
My question is, is anyone running a trans cooler in addition to the trans cooler in there radiator?
And if so, did you notice any differences?
I notice a lot of heat coming from that area of my truck, so much heat that I can\'t hold on my shifter shaft for more then a few seconds because it is so hot, i have a bad feeling it\'s from the heat from my transmission.

Mike if you want to drop the temp of you motor and trans run the external cooler only.
The motor won\'t be trying to cool both of them and your tranny will last longer too.

I am running dual tranny coolers instead of the rad cooler and my tranny only gets to 150 idling in traffic on a hot day.

I use the becool transmission cooler with the 10\'\' fan built onto it..
I\'m thinking of using my a/c condenser since I ripped all that out, but I have herd to much cooling is also bad on the tranny.

i heard that also....a little heat is needed to work corectly...just like a motor...some heat is good

I usually run both the radiator cooler and an external cooler. The load on your radiator will be less because the trans will be running cooler, so thats not a huge issue, especially if you have it running through the radiator now. I usually mount the cooler in front of, but not attached to the radiator. That way it can get air to it without resticting air to the radiator.

I also just run the be cool fluid cooler with the built in fan... I have it mounted in the up right position, where the horn and the vapor canister used to be... works like a charm.

Just something to think about, (not for you \"Florida guys\") http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif But the trans \"cooler\" in the radiator is, in many cases, more of a \"trans warmer\" for winter weather. But I don\'t know quite how important this is.
......... So, any experts here who can say if we should route trans fluid thru radiator in winter, even if bypassed in summer?

According to TCI, the trans should run between 175*F and 225*F. I\'d imagine that it should get hot enough to burn off condensation in the trans fluid. Fluid pressure probably changes with temp also.
