ok. what tranny should i use. im thinking of 350 or 282 engine. im 16 and i dont have a shitload of money to spend. turbo 350 or 400? 700r4? im new to this so sorry if im asking stupid questions.

also, auto or stick. everyone i ask around here says go with the auto. but it would only be a 3 speed. stick is always better but im now gonna spend a lot of extra money just to make it a stick. whats everyone here have? thanks for the help.

First of all on the engine i would recommend the 350 for the sake or parts availability and overall convenience. As far as the transmission is concerned, most people use an auto on the swap because its easier and more available. The common ones are the TH350 and the 700R4, they\'re also among the easiest. As far as manual.. the only one I could suggest for ease and strength would be the NV3500 which is my choice of route. Either way, good luck. Be sure to search around this forum, there\'s lots of useful information inside.

Id say easiest would be 350 for the engine and the tranny it would depend on 2 or 4wd... if 4wd the 700R4 with tail housing removed will mount to the stock transfer case where as the th350 would have to be modified and have an adapter plate... 2wd im not sure, dont have one but if you dont have to modify the driveshaft Id go th350... one less gear that can mess up

if you want a 4 speed and don\'t want to spend the extra money on a th700r4, you can also use a th200r4 it\'s not as strong, and it\'s the sime dimensions and length as a th350... the th350 is only a 3 speed and if your planning on getting any kind of fuel milage i\'d go with the 4 speed trans... the 700r4 is what i run in my s-10 no mods to my stock 2wd driveshaft either, it was a direct bolt in i got a trans out of a z28 camaro, it has the same servo as a vette so at WOT it will stay in 4rth gear unlike any other th700r4, but they are rather expensive to buy, th350\'s are a dime a dozen, there\'s a million of them around and are cheap to get performance parts for, for a standard it would cost big bucks to convert it if the truck is an auto, you\'d have to change all kinds of stuff and it\'s just a lot of extra work that doesn\'t need to be done... so i say if it\'s an auto stick with an auto if it\'s a standard already find a nv3500 and drop it in with a 350 infront of it (carbed for simplicity sake and cost FI is expensive to do) i did my first conversion for around $1000 that was including a 700r4 a 305 and all the bits and peices... the 305 is a cheap alternative but just doesn\'t have the power that the 350 has, but once again they are cheap... if your not looking to race it or anything you could get a 305 and th350 and do the conversion for i\'d say $500-600 quite easily, but i\'d spend the extra money and do it right the first time....the second time i did it i spent more on my crank than i did on my entire swap before aftermarket cranks aren\'t cheap i found out http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

it also depends on what gears your gonna run. I\'m swapping out my 700R4 for a turbo 350 with a 10\'\' converter. i just like 3 speeds better. I\'ll sell you a rebuilt 700R4 with converter less than 2000 miles on it...$500 you come get it.

I have a 4L60E (electronic 700 R4). I like it because after i rigged the lockup(i converted it from FI to carb, and ditched the computer) it gets great gas mileage, all i need is a shift kit for little quicker shifts, and ill be set. I approve.
