I have went back thru all 13 pages in the cooling section and didnt quite find the answer to question(s). Motor is a 355/turbo 350, Desktop Dyno says 380 hp, going down the road it\'s running 190-195, stopped to check in this past saturday at the cruise in, 4 pm, sunny, hot.. temp hit 210, Now for cooling, Im using the Modine Corvette radiator with water wetter, 2 10\" pusher fans and a 17\" flex fan... no shroud(busted) and a 160 stat, when first get going stat opens around 190 temp drops to 160 but starts climbing to the the 190-195 operating temp. Here is my thinking.. what else can I do?..
Im gonna get a good t-stat(mr.gasket etc) and a 21 lb rad. cap, take one of the electric fans off the front and see if that will allow more air to flow thru the radiator while driving down the road, feel like Im restricting the airflow, but what else? IF all else fails I\'ll ditch the flex fan and 2 electric fans and get a taurus fan(dont want to).. help plz.

I would get rid of one of the pushers first and see how it does..
How are the fans wired up...on a temp switch or on a toggle type deal?

How much space do you have between the mechanical fan and radiator. Without a shroud it needs to be pretty close, probably about 1\" away.

Also i noticed coolin was that efficent with 160 . So i decided to use a 180 Hi flow thermostat in my truck seems to stay at 182-190. Minda i do have the taurus fan also. Forgots are u running a tranny cooler also, if not i would get one!. Also that water wetter. in my words is crap. Never did anything too cool better. but may have for others not me.

I would do a shroud before anything else.

1st, name brand tstat or a super-stat. Cheap tstats don\'t regulalte temp very evenly I\'ve noticed.
2nd, With the 17\" flex, it should be able to cool the engine by itself. Providing the air flow is acuttually going through the rads cores. The 17\" will pull good air aslong as it very close to rad - say 1 inch. Otherwise you really need a shroud. A shroud keep the air from coming around the rad to the sides of the fan blades. It keeps unwanted air out and allows you to pull cooler air throuhg the rad. I\'d say remove the 2nd pusher, it\'s probubly blocking the air flow.
The combo\'s you speak I use. Except for the vette rad. I use the dual core taurs rad. It works fine. The only time I rally need the fans are when I have the snowplow blade hooked up blocking airflow to the rad.

this is what i have, maybe it will help. sb400 bored 60 over. modine corvette radiator, 160 t-stat,serp belt driven flex fan(reverse rotation),no shroud or water wetter. i have the fan sitting 3/4\" away from radiator which is sitting in the stock position. my temp goes to 180-190 in traffic and to about 170-180 at cruise in 90+ heat with high humidity.

alrighty guys.. good news... went to advance auto, they didnt have a 3\" spacer so I couldnt move the flex fan closer, but what I did is remove one of my pusher fans, drove it around a bit, didnt get over 170 going down the road, stopped at stop sgn, got up to 180-185 then started going down, started moving.. hehe well it was me bro-in-law and a buddy, went and threw a circle, slung the belt off the water pump, damn good we were 100 yrs from the shop, hit 210 then 235 I had it shut off.. put belt back on, turned electric fan on for a few min, started her up, she immediately cooled back to 200.. will be fixin it so belt less likely to sling off tomorrow! thanks for the help... and I went ahead and got a shroud, hate to put one in but gotta keep this thing cool.
