an 8 point cage wont go through your speaker pods. An 8 point cage does not include the a-pillar bars (that go through the speaker pods) nor the Halo bar (above your head), thats in the 10 points +. Just the Door bars, bed bars, main loop, main braces and horizontal bar are in a 8point. I believe they have a bolt it in kit also.. check JEGS.

The stereo and hardcover add weight. If you need a stereo, then the exhaust is too quiet. Hack it all out and put in a 12 point cage. The stock dash is too heavy too. That also must go. All you need is a tach. Coat hangers make great lightweight tach mounts. Just bend it to fit. Come to think of it, the engine adds a lot of weight also. Take that out and the few hundred pound weight loss should be good for a few tenths in the quarter. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
Now for some info you can actually use...
If you are going to bother to put in a cage, you should weld it in. It will be much stronger that way. If you don\'t install the rear bars, the halo (top part of cage) will be weaker. Not sure by how much, but I would put them in. Those bars also stiffen up the chassis. You can take out the rear window and replace it with a piece of polycarbonate with holes cut for the cage.
The cages from Jegs are good. The pipes are oversized and have to be cut to fit. Also, shipping will be about $80.
Hope this helps.
