does anyone know of a set of centerbolt valve covers tall enough to use roller rockers? I would hate to have to get a center-to-normal bolt conversion kit as well as a taller set of covers.

also, for you other zz4 guys, got any recommendations on rocker ratios for the stock zzr cam? different cam options? I work for advance auto parts so I get 20% off lunati.

I\'ve got a ZZ4 short block, Edelbrock heads, but old style, not centerbolt. Anwyway, I use the \"Hot\" GM cam. Seems to me to have a pretty narrow power band, 4K to 6K, and it\'s DEAD at 6200. But within that range, lotsa power. Using ET/MPH, slide-rule computer says 430 HP (perfect conditions). Idles pretty lumpy too. And it\'s noisy too, some guys think I have solid lifters... but I do have them set really loose.

For the valve covers, look @ these:

Proform\'s got a tall set of centerbolt valve covers. I just picked up a set at Summit this week for mine.

As far as roller rockers, make sure you get a set of self aligning ones, as the heads don\'t have guides.

The HOt cams pretty decent, Im actually swapping one in mine right now. I got the whole kit, which includes springs and rockers.

Springs are the same as the stock ZZ4 springs, so you really don\'t need to swap them. But, if your motors got some miles like mine, it won\'t hurt to swap for fresh springs.

That combo\'s supposidly good for 394-7 hp.

I don\'t think the L98 heads the ZZ4 comes with will really flow enough for much more cam than the HOT cam. Even the stock Vortec heads outflow them now.

Scotty, the ZZ4\'s have always been noisy. Hot cam\'s supposed to make it worste. Its fairly common in them.

Have you guys seen the newest ZZ4 line? The AFR ZZ4? Sallee Chevrolet is selling them. AFR 195 heads, 222/230 cam, and ZZ4 shortblock.

464 HP@6100!!!!!!!!!

464 HP @ 6100 !!!!!!!!

THAT\'S interesting! Do you know what cam that is? That HP is probably the VERY best of conditions, but sounds pretty impressive.

Is a GM cam, just one step above the HOT cam. Its listed in my Performance Parts book.

I beleive the AFR 195\'s have the full competition port work on them available from AFR. They use the AFR hydra rev kit, and recommend max rpm at 6500!! They use a single plane intake on it to feed those heads too.

Heres the page and all the part specs. This is almost identical to the motor i was gonna build earlier this summer, but I didn\'t wanna wait 2 months for the AFR heads.

I imagine a lot of that power is from those afr heads. I have heard that the afr heads out flow any head with a comparable port volume.

Im not sure about all, but most. Im sure lots of R&D and dyno time went into that motor too. But thats a lotta ponies with that small of a cam IMO.

comp and crane both make narrow body self aligning roller rockers that fit under stock centerbolt valve rockers. They\'re kind of pricey though. HTH.

I have stock center valve covers and my 1.6 proform roller rockers fit fine and if your rockers are noisy well you need to be at 0 lash. Looking for a good cam go to goautocenter.com they have a custom grind cam that matches the hot cam just you have to run a electric pump has no fuelpump lobe.I believe it goes for 80.00. Lobe centerline is 109 the gm hotcam is 112 more of a lope to the custom cam I have this cam and it works to 7000 with my supervictor intake can not beat it for the price, I love it. (it is 492-492 lift with 1.6 rockers it is at 525-525).
