i have a 85 blazer with a 350 in it i am converting my belt system over to serpentine to clean things up a little. when i was at the salvage yard today i found the system i want but i found 2 different alternators 1 has a one wire quick release plug that i think is purple this was from an 88 or 89 fullsize pickup. and the other had a 2 wire quick plug one red wire and i think but 100 percent sure the other was white this was from a 4.3 v6 blazer i think 92 -94. since my blazer has a 2 wire plug but obviously a different style plug should i go with the 2 wire plug and will wiring this up make the alternator work as it is supposed too.

I use an alternator form an 85-87 fullsize Chev truck. (Hollander #312-that\'s a salvage yard interchange number) It is a 94 amp and bolts/plugs right into what you\'re trying to do. You can then put almost any serentine pulley on it.

Hope this helps you sir,

Jeff......

the white wire goes into the dash ,it will hook up to the idiot light or gage, whatever it came with from the factory. I have a set of aftermarket gages, so I am not even using the white wire,so it is basically the same as a one wire alternator

just a reminder, because I run into this a lot, don\'t forget to use the late model serpentine style waterpump due to the fact that a V belt system and a serp. belt system run oposite from each other. The alt of choice would be the older design due to the fact that the newer style has an internal fan design which loves to go out at the worst of times. I know the newer design has a cleaner look but trust me after I sell around 10 a week, at $109 a pop, its not worth it. And by the way, since you ask our opinion, go with the plain jane two wire system due to if you drive it every day (especially out of state or somewhere out in no where) it will be easier to locate a two wire alt instead of the self energizing style (which would have to be rewired to use if you were in this jam).
