Ok, my starter went out today. It was just one of the old type, very large, offset 2 bolt mount, and very heavy. Ive looked through the old forums and opinions seem to vary as to which is the best replacement. Some say 90-94 pickup, some say 94-98 chevy, and some say go with an aftermarket mini starter. Can anybody gimme a little guidance here? I do want to go with the smaller size, but which one?...

There is a new high torque mini starter to the right on this page -- in the parts store. It says it fits both flywheels.
By your description I would say you have the large flywheel. If your not interested in that one or need it sooner I would say to go to a good parts store with knowlegeable people. I usually pick the \'oldest\' counter person to talk to becuase age is wisdom. Usually they know all the trick part numbers to make easy converts.

go to advanced auto and tell them you want a starter for a 95 chevy 350 auto. they should pull you a factory style mini starter. that is what i did to get the one for my blazer. i don\'t remember the part number

yeah i think i got the one that tracker is talking about, or something similar. the brand is \"peak performer\" from autozone. it was $130. brand new not remanufactured. just like a factory starter, but the motor is like half size.
the part number from autozone is 25003

For what it\'s worth, I just had the one in my full size \'94 pickup (350) out to replace the brushes. It\'s a full size starter.

the one i am using i got at autozone. told them it was for a mid 90s suburban with a 454. bolted right up and i haven\'t had a problem with it. cost like $120 or so plus a core charge. don\'t forget starter bolts! they are different from the large starter style. and since it is a small starter there is plenty of extra room.
