My 1998 5.7 Vortec came from the junkyard with factory AC. It looked like a pretty direct hookup to the AC in my 1991 Sonoma, jus going from R12 to R134. Then I went to connect the dryer to the expansion coil and DANG...the threads are different!!

Has anyone else run into this problem? How did you solve it?

Could you use the OE ac parts from the truck?

I\'ve had to cut ends and have a napa install high pressure fittings to connect mismatched hoses before. I don\'t know if this will work with the info you gave though.

No...I don\'t have any of the AC stuff (compressor, etc) from the Sonoma...I gave it all to my local high school autoshop.

Are the different threads on the coil and the dryer because the dryer is for R134?

I guess I\'ll see if someone can make me an adapter with the different threads on either end. Its a pain!

R134a fittings are different from R12 fittigs. They did this to prevent accidental crossovers between refridgerants. You are most likely going to have to use the stuff from ur donor truck or any dryer from a 134 system that will suit ur installation needs.
