My truck came with a complete true dual exhaust system with chrome tips and glass packs to hook up to stock 400 sbc exhaust manifolds. Now i\'m thinking that this pipe could be modified just a little at the front to work with the headers. The pipe is in pretty good shape, got probably a lifetime left in it as much as these trucks get driven. However, it is only 2\" pipe... that is probably the big drawback. I thought maybe i could get off cheap with some decent but cheap mufflers in place of the glass-packs, and just bolt the stuff up.

This is just 1 option. I do have money for a brand new exhaust system, 2 1/2\" with 40 series flowmasters or whatever... $400 or how much ever it costs... but i hate to spend all that dough when i could get off for maybe $100 and use what i have.

Will there be much of a power loss with this 2\" system versus a brand new 2 1/2\" system? give me your opinions, thanks fellas

It all depends where your motor will make its power.

If you plan on 4500rpm launch and trippin the lights 7000rpm, that exhaust is (quite) a bit small.

But if you have a mild small block, keep the true duals.

its a 357 about 10:1, vortec heads, airgap intake, 268/274 .488/.501 cam 1600-6000 range (i think), holeshot 2000 converter (might be too low of stall). I imagine this exhaust might choke it a little.. 10-20hp lost maybe??? vs. a 2 1/2\" inch system with good muff\'s.

well, if i\'m not mistaken, don\'t flowmasters only come in 2 1/4\" minimum? Of course i could get conversion pieces that go from 2\" to 2 1/4\" or something, or i\'m sure they have them at the exhaust shop..
