Does anyone know what the rules are for a smog legal swap in california or where I could find that out? http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
as far as I know the emmisions must meet the year of the truck, also the engine cannot be any older then the truck, plus you must have all the emmisions devices on the truck for that year truck, this is as far as I know.
don\'t take my word for it, call someone who works for the emmisions office in your state , then post what they say here.

guess what I found?
Wanna know?
I bet ya do cause it involve Cali smog law.
You can apply for specialty built vehicle. This will cause the smog check to be void so you can build your motor any which way you want.
But........
There is a catch. The state of California only allows so many of these special vehicle registrations a year or per several years, not sure exactly so you have to act quickly or wait till one is available. If I am not mistaken I believe that there is still a few hundred left. That was last time I checked which was like 3 months ago. You might want to go down to your local DMV and ask them some questions. Someone else you can talk to is your referee. He or she is the person who can do a smog check for you and restamp your vehicle if it passes smog and will change all the info under that car\'s vin and all records and make the engine swap legal. Not sure how to do that last part so you would have to talk to your ref.
Hope that helps
