Can this be done? My new motor doesnt need the big solid lift cam (.621 lift) so I was going to put my smaller Hydraulic (.509 lift) roller but my hydraulic roller lifters got stolen. So somebody give me some advice please.

buy new lifters...soild rollers on a hydraclic cam or hyd lifters on a solid roller will not work...usally the roller cam are billet steel and area lot harder than a hydyrlic..and mixing either one with each other will eat the lobes off or destroy the lifters or both..plus the metal will go in to the oil ....save your slfe the money and just buy new ones

Are we talking about a OEM or aftermarket roller setup?

Actually it can be done and is quite common is \"street legal\" race cars. A lot of people will use hyd roller lifters with a solid roller cam. You get the AWESOME opening and closing rates of the solid roller cam, but without the hassle of setting lash every week. The hyd roller lifters calm the idle down (some) and they make running an outrageous cam nearly hassle free. I\'ve done this on several motors for customers and had Great results.....now as far as going the other way like i think you\'re wanting to do...I don\'t know...I\'ve never heard of anyone using Solid roller lifters on a hyd roller cam. It should work, but you\'d have the everlasting problem of setting lash all the time. With a cam as small as yours it wouldn\'t be a huge problem, but it would still exist....so if you really have to put it in now, then I wouldn\'t worry about wiping off a lobe, because nowdays both hyd rollers and solid rollers (especially aftermarket) are both billet steel. but if you have time, you could probably find someone willing to trade lifters with you, or just sell your set and buy hyd rollers......

The motor is already together except for the intake. I just didnt want to pull it back out if I could get away with it. Buying a new set of lifters or a new cam is out of the question because I got laid off last week.

Curious, if you used solid rollers on a hydr. roller cam, what would you set the lash at?? I\'d think a fairly tight setting, since the cam was designed for zero clearance, yet enough clearance so there\'d be no chance to hang a valve open.... but I really dunno.

I talked to comp and they said to set the lash

pretty tight .0010. because the hydraulic cam was desighned to operate with a tight lash
