well i got my parts for my 305 today.

I got my pistons, rings my cam 232/234 dur. 488 488 lift, pushrods lifters all bearings gaskets oil pick up and freeze plugs.

I have a 305 bored .060 over, ported and polished heads.

Does this setup sound n e good ????? I hope to have the rest of my parts soon.

I think that, your cam is too big for a 305. That will be on the radical side because the smaller the cubes, the more radical a cam will get.Heads although ported may not flow enough for where that cam makes power. I could be wrong though.

The 305 is not known for its low end torque and putting that cam in will not help the situation where you will need it, which is down low.

Just wondering but why a 305?

I agree. why? 350s are a dime a dozen. Maybe it\'s not too late to return the rebuild parts?......

I got the 305, complete, for free. the guy pulled it out of his k5 blazer and put in a 350, well he ended up trading the k5 for some tires for his other truck. He told my dad if he knew n e 1 that wanted it, they could have it. He said he never heard a knock or ping and all he thought it needed was a tune up.

My truck is starting to rust bad to many years of Minnesota winters, and i really want a s-10, so i figured what the hell might as well try the v8 swap on something that dont matter if i * n e thing up. Plus i wanna keep as much as possible stock(700r4,rear end) because hopefully i can get a new vehicle next april.

Is it wrong for me to think that this will be alot better than my 4.3??? All i want to do is for it to be a little faster and sound nice.

Also i am planning on buying an Edelbrock torker2 intake manifold and that is the dyno matched cam for it. I am planning on using the patriot headers from this site and running duals 2.5 to right before my axle with flowmaster 40\'s.

If you just want a play toy go ahead and do it. If you want your s10 to be a serious ride don\'t do it. I\'d wait and get a good starter truck and V8 it instead. I wish I\'d started with another truck but I\'ve got too much in mine now to get rid of it. They\'re sneaky that way, they\'re never finished. My 2 cents.

I would have to agree that the 305 would not be my first choice of engines but, it is your truck and your money sir. It\'s a good place to start into the world of V8-S10\'s http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Good to see another member from Minnesota.

My opinion is that if i got the motor for free, i would spend as little as it needed to get it running nicely, and then just drop it in, simply because it\'s a 305. But your spending all that money and putting all these awesome parts into a 305, which doesn\'t make sense to me. And especially if your getting a new vehicle in less than a year, i would have just installed the motor basically stock.. with the tune up or whatever it needs.

But, i think you could re-use a lot of these parts on a 350 if you get a block in the future. That i could see making a lot of sense. You can reuse that torker intake, all the exhaust system and headers, etc. But boring, new pistons, and that stuff i think is a waste of time in a 305.

I also vote for that cam being pretty damn big. My cam is 230/236 @ .050 and .488/.501 lift, my motors a 357 with vortec heads. So you got pretty much the same cam as i have on a lot smaller motor. Bigger isn\'t better with cams. Everythings gotta be matched or else it will be sick. I don\'t know if that cam would fit in a 350 block? They are probably the same but i don\'t know. Anyway theres my opinion.. have a good one man.

that torqer 2 is ok for high rpm, but it will kill bottom end power. i had one on a 23 t street rod, and the thing dynoed at 450+ hp, but did not have enough low end to burn out, due to too big a cam ( like yours) and a single plane intake (like yours). difference is my ran like a raped ape above 4,000, and your may not spin that high on a regular basis. just my 2cents

Buying my oil pan and mounts this friday!!! I am getting so excited!! Cleaning out the garage today, both me and my dads tool box\'s are basically scattered around the garage so may take awhile. Cant wait to gat the blazer in the garage so i can start taking apart the 4.3. Everyday i find myself on the computer or looking through parts catalogs for hours, constantly running out to my truck and looking at shit. The anticipation is killing me.

This weekend is scheduled for ripping out the 4.3 and modding the engine bay.

Also My heads nothing done to them right now, my dad is worried about the valve guides being worn so he wants to replace the whole valve train and then port and polish them. I told him i dont want to, but he said he will pay for it. I told him if he wants to pay for something buy me my headers and intake manifold. what do yalls think????

Should i use My 4.3 starter, and alternator or use the 305\'s starter and alt??

Damn i ask alot of questions. better safe than sorry tho. Thanks for the help guys u ahave been terrific so far.........
