ok, has anybody ever jsut used a torch to heat up and a hammer to remove their ball joints? i know i run the risk of the grease catching fire, but i think i already burnt most of that off (oops.....). if so how easy/ hard was it?

just prop it up and hit it hard with a big hammer.........no heat needed

I beat the hell out of mine and couldn\'t get it out. I finally broke down and took it to a local garage. The guy only charged me 5 bucks. Well worth it.

I used to heat the control arm (not the ball joint- that defeats the purpose) and had good success. Some do come out easier than others. Now I have a ball joint press which works real good. You could probably rent or borrow one from a local parts store. Saves a lot of headaches.

hit the spindle part with the hammer ,not the ball joint. never will come off if you hit the ball joint
