well, i just stripped out my tranny my 700r4. So i found another one for real cheap out of a 91 chevy astro van. It bolted right up with few problems. the only real problem is that i had a manual spedo, and it had a electonic. So i was just going to go without one for a while. I got it all done and now the damn things is slow as shit. It only shifts at like 3500 rpm at wide open throtle. I dont know what is wrong with it. I got my tv cable and all the linkage hooked up so its not that. I hope ya can help me. I have not idea what is wrong with it? Any help i sure could use it. THanks

try an adjustable vacuum modulator. i bought one at napa for under $5 bucks. i havent put it in yet but you can adjust the shift points with it.

actually i dont know if the 700r4 have them. i have a th350 i wasnt thinking sorry.

you have an easy fix problem with your 700r4,you will need to take the governer out of your old trans and put it in your new one or go to a tranny shop and ask for a governer for an s10 that should solve your problem, put a shift kit in it if you have some xtra cash

Thanks for your help, but i have never heard of a governer in a tranny before...where is it in the trans? How hard is it to swap over? How would i go about it? WHat does it look like?

Thanks again

shouldnt be too complicated, i think theres one governor that sets the normal shift points and if it\'s removed the tranny shifts at redline or atleast pretty close to it. then again maybe its different on this trans but i have seen this on a few ive worked on (not 700r\'s).

make sure the tv cablesis set right, you can;t just put it on and forget about it... hold it in low gear and see if it shifts at the same rpm, if so then it would be the governer, but if it revs up to about 5500 then i\'d say it\'s your tv cable not beign set just adjust it and see if it changes it any

I don\'t think a 700R has a vacuum modulator. Turbo 350\'s and 400\'s and all of the vacuum shifted transmissions did, but I don\'t even think there are any vacuum lines that go to a 700R.
