How much does a rebuild usually cost? I called a guy in the paper, he told 300 bucks labor + parts, i told him i\'d think about it, he calls me 20 min later and says $200 labor, he tells me $200 parts, does a $400 700r4 rebuild sound to good to be true, supposedly the guy is hard up for money what do you think?

Well i paid $1200 Canadian a couple months back for a performance rebuilt in my 4x4 s10.
$1200 included remove old tranny swapping to a newer model 700R4 (My old one was an 83, they had some problems with them)
Also had a carbon fiber torque converter(stock stall) extra clutch packs, corvette servoes, custom shift kit, and internally ground lock up installed.
Then the whole thing reinstalled
All for $1200 canadian or about $800 american.

$400 is a good deal, if he does it right, make sure you get a good kit, like a TCI or Trans-Go. The guy i got my 700R4 from paid $400 for a stock rebuild. I ended up getting it for $60 because he forgot to hook up the TV cable and thought the tranny was junk. Some people just amaze me with there stupidness...lol. But it serves my purpose just fine. I\'m gonna put a trans-go kit in it this winter, but so far being stock it has held up good. You could always do it yourself and save some money, not very hard, just buy the video and a manual on it. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
