ok i want the satisfaction of saying i did everything on my truck, so for the exhaust, since i have tons of tubing available to me at work, does anyone know any bending secrets?
right now i am planning to cut the angles needed out of wood, clamp them down , and torch the pipe then bend it along the wood-seen that on monster garage haha---anyone have input on other ways to do it?

find out what angles you need your pipe bent, then take your pipe to a shop and have them bend it with their bender machine. Or buy one of those machines, and do it all yourself.

Find a muffler shop and see about doing some odd jobs(painting ,cleaning up etc)in exchange for doing some bends on your pipe http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif

those manual benders don\'t work, trust me dude! have a shop bend it up. the ones around here will not touch a v8 s-10, but you can make a wire model and they will bend up pipe to match it. that works out good

what about something like this, its a hydraulic bender with fittings for up to 3\"... looks like it would work

OK, 2 things on this subject:
1) Hydraulic benders: The shoes must match the tubing diameter (O.D.) EXACTLY. That is the key to bending without kinking and crushing. Most \"Harbor Freight\" type benders don\'t have exhaust-specific size shoes. Electrical rigid conduit sizes are NG also.
2) I made my own exhaust by buying 45s & 90s from JC Whitney. They are the only place I found where they elbows come swaged on one end. So, you can just slip-fit them all together, tack weld them, and the remove them for a good weld. I think I bought the straight sections of pipe from Summit or Jegs. I also made collector extensions from my shortie headers by taking 3\" 45s, and cutting them where needed (34 degrees, for instance) and welding on a header flange, also available from Whitney, or Summit/Jegs.

I 2nd buying mandel bends, if you want a super nice system. But why not jsut take it to a shop if they will do it. Its not liek you forged your own crank, or cast your own pistons.....some things are jsut better off to people with the right tools...

These guys are exactly right. If the bender doesn\'t have the correct dies with it, you\'ll end up crimping, mashing, and swagging your pipe. Then it wan\'t be round, and look like crap. I\'d try to find a good muffler shop that could do mandrel bends so the pipe I.D. will stay the same size for the best flow and sound. But even with the old form die benders, an experienced exhaust man can do a great job. I say this because I\'m a tool & die maker/mold maker by trade, so I\'m familiar with the forming processes. Not trying to be a know it all or anything like that.

Dude, do like me and lay off that shiit \'til 10P:m. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif
...........And another thing, a good thing, the Whitney elbows are mandrel bent, full size, no wrinkles. (or at least they were a couple years ago) And if you don\'t have a welder, it\'s still possible if you buy a couple header adapters & a armfull of clamps.

I did my exhaust with the Jeg\'s mandrel bends and I\'m very pleased with the results.

Were the ones from Jeg\'s Swaged on one end? I found that to be a great help in putting a system together. If the are, no need to deal with JC! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

stahl sells the cheapest bends. i have a mandrel binder at work and still couldn\'t set it up and bend a bend without crinkleing it about 60% of the time. i went with the stahl bends after doing my research. was very pleased with my results, see my pics of headers under gallery underconstruction da jimmy

He used the bends to make the headers.
