I am getting really close to putting the 357 engine and t_5 into my \'88 s15, but I have the Patriot headers off this page and want to still run the T-5. What do I need to do to get the transmission to work with these headers.
The T-5 is out of a \'88 Camaro, The motor is a 86 TPI Block.
There is something to do with the slave cylinder hitting the exhaust but I need to know from someone what they did and what parts they used.
I know I\'m not the only one that is trying to use a T-5 on a motor with headers. Please help

I used the Hedman shorties and a hydraulic slave from an 82-93 camaro. I think your Patriot headers are about the same as the Hedman deal. Problem is that the driver side collector points right at the slave cylinder with about 4\" in which to maneuver your exhaust pipe around the slave cylinder. It can be done, but it\'s not pretty. Think about going to a hydraulic throwout bearing or a different set of headers or manifolds... Bryan

I think the only way you\'re gonna save yourself some trouble is to cut off the end of the header where the collector meets and weld it at an angle. I know a few guys on here did that to clear the slave cylinder. I don\'t know what the dimensions are on the patriot headers compared to the hedman shorties but if they\'re any bigger you\'re going to have nothing but hell. So bottom line, I think it will be easiest on you if you #1 pound that section of firewall right where the header come in close, pound it really well with a heavy hammer. And #2 cut and re-weld that lip at an angle so when you bolt the collector on, it points away instead of into the slave cylinder. There are some pics in the gallery of someones header mod that I just described.

is there a hyd. throwout bearing that will go on a camaro t5? that sounds like the ticket if it exists.

Howe makes a hydraulic throwout bearing part #82870. It\'s designed for early four speeds like a t-10 or a muncie. That would be the company to contact about your application.

is there any advantage to using this thing besides getting rid of the mess that cloggs exhaust routing?

For anyone doing what I am. An easy solution is to use a bellhousing out of a 88-92 GMC fullsize. This positions the slave cylinder at passanger side and very low. There is no conflict with the exhause any more.
The hydrolic throwout bearing has more clutch accuracy and avoids the whole levre situation involved with the engagement of the clutch.Hope this helps anyone later on.

well I am using the camaro T5, and I have to use the bellhousing that is made to work with it or the rear mount will be all kinds of jacked up. I am thinking of getting that part just to clear up he exhaust situation I have going on. I have not yet got exhaust on my truck past the headders because I drove it to the paint shop first thing after I finished the install of the manual. On their web page it says that it will work best with a 3/4\" master. Is the stock s10 master a 3/4\" unit?

The mount on the rear of the trans will need your attention. You\'ll have to play with it and make some spacers to make sure the trans and mount will line up. This wasn\'t very difficult. As for the master cylinder, I am unaware of the size. Your referring to the bore dia of the cyl. If so. I don\'t think 3/4\" is to far off.
