Can anybody tell me what the width from backing plate to backing plate is on s10 and if they ever put 8.5 inch ring gears in the s10 or blazer??????

I think the 2wd is around 54\". I measured before, but I dont\' remember. That was from the wheel mouting surface on the drum to drum.

An 8.5\" won\'t fit in there. Its too small a housing.

48 is the backing plate, 54 is the mounting surface of the drums.

I know they came with 8.5\'s. It was 96-98 5 speed trucks with the HO L35 4.3 motor. It was an 8.5\" 3.08 locker only. The ZR2 offroad trucks have them too, but you\'d have to narrow one to fit it into a 1st gen truck or blazer. But he said an 8.5\" ring gear. I assumed he meant an 8.5\" diff. in the 7 1/2 housing.

If you\'re looking for a rearend with 3.50:1 gears go with the dodge 8 1/4 from the 92 to 96 Dakotas. As far as the width mine is 4\'1\" from the inside of the drum to the inside of the other drum. I don\'t think mine is narrowed any. Mine is an 88(was a 2.5/5 speed.) with a 7 1/2 10 bolt and an Auburn posi from a Fourth Gen Camaro SS. If you are looking for a good rearend that will fit that Luv, look at a junkyard for an old Ford Courier. Some were equipped with 9 inch rearends. They are all one leggers and highway geared but its a good start.

are you sure the courirers had 9 inch in them?

I think the Couriers came with an 8inch rearend they look like a 9inch with the third member coming out of the front. I cant find my measurement sheet I have but I think that the 8.8 out of Expolorers are the same width. disc brakes and alot of them are 3.73s and 4.10 ratios.

Found my measurements. The Exploder rear axle is 59\" from axle flange to axle flange where the rotors sit. They may work on a 4x4 or zr2
