well i finally got the engine i have been waiting on. So now i am thinking about trannys. I really dont care too much about overdrive personally, i mean it would but i dont have to have it. I got the stock 700r4 in it right now, which i have not done any work too. So that has to go. I dont know if i want to just build that one up or get a good one that will hold up. I have had many problems with 700r4\'s before in my friends camaro. Whe just swapped out two of them in the last month. So i was wondeing what you had to do to an s10 to fit a th350 in it? Do you have to modify anything or will it just fit right in? Do you have to get a special tail shaft or what lenght do you need? Thx for your help!!

All depends on your motor in my opinion. I like being able to drive on the eway, and not tach 3000+ rpm. And, highway racings fun too. If your under like 450 hp, I\'d get a good performance rebuild on the 700, or get a performance one.

What gears are you using in the rear end? I have 4.11 gears and a 700R4 and I turn 3000RPM at highway speeds. If you want low gears an overdrive is almost madatory - if it\'s a daily driver and you want to drive at higher speeds for any distance.

Even if the overdrive doesn\'t matter to you the 700r4 has a lower 1st gear. I am not exastly sure anymore but I think its around 3.06 as opposed to the t350 at around 2.75. Basically it will get you off the line faster. So not only is it good on the highway it also helps at the strip or wherever else. As far as reliability just you just need to get one from someone that knows what they are doing. There is no question that they have prioblems but with the right updates they can be very dependable. Thats just my opinion.
