Driveshaft is too long after pulling engine to replace the rear main seal. The entire project has went perfect untill this point.
I don\'t understand because there wasn\'t an problem when removing the drivshaft.
My friend who drove the truck befor said there was something wrong because when you shifted in hi RPM you could feel the driveshaft bounce or \"slam\".
Anyone with experiencing this problem?
Whats it cost to get it resized?

How much of the yoke is showing when the truck is sitting normally?
........... Two things jump to mind.... hoping you can still use your present driveshaft.
1) Can you move the engine forward a little?
2) I\'m told that there are some offset spring shims sold right here to move the rear forward (or aft?) a little... don\'t know the details though, check it out. Point is, maybe that would be enough for the driveshaft to be \"right\".

yeah if its too long you will feel it slam because there\'s no freespace to move. mark it off and get it cut (but VERY minimally). i had mine quoted to be cut and welded and rebalanced for $80, but when they tried to balance it they found that the tube was bent, so they refabricated the whole tube and welded the ends for $200. I\'d say if your tube is good you can get away with $60-100.
Remember, longer is better than shorter! One of my driveshafts I had shortened too much and it ruined the whole thing!
You can take it to a local machine shop or if you\'re not sure, I took mine to NAPA and they take the measurements and shipped it out for me.

I hope you don\'t mind me jumping in here dewebb, but how do you measure a drive shaft? I suppose you install the motor and trans, but what are the reference points to measure?
