This is going behind a built 454. Which will hold up better for racing/playing in the mud? I\'m planning on running 3.42s or 3.73s. Any ideas what rpms I\'d be turning at 70-80 with both trannys? I also want a reverse pattern valve body with full manual control...Thanks

Calculations...first and last post.

400 will take more abuse.

The 400 should be significantly stronger. especially with the torque of the 454 in front of it. Although, either could be built up by a good tranny shop...

LoL, it\'ll be done my self. Finding a good tranny shop here is like the odds of winning the lottery. No one wants to touch anything remotely related to racing http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif

Oh yea...forgot this part. Been to 3 diff shops. 1500+, 1600, and 1450 were the \"estimates\" That was rebuilding the 700R4 I have now. That didn\'t include labor for taking the tranny out, as it was going to be pulled out my self and dropped off. Seemed extremely high for a stock rebuild, with a vette servo...

either tranny will hold up if built correctly, but if you want to cruise at all the 700r4 would be more practical. I have seen some excellent trannies at www.transmissioncenter.net. they build 700r4\'s to take 600-700 h.p. and massive torque. they are reasonably phttp://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/smileJap.gifd too. the th400 would be cheaper but may require extras like cross member and new driveshaft ect. my blazer runs 71 m.p.h. at 2000 rpm with the 4L60-E which is an electronically controlled version of the 700r4. my tires are 235/75/15\'s for now. i do get decent hiway milage also

i didn\'t have to get another cross member for the 400. just moved it back about inch and of course had the driveshaft redone, but not much work.

The 400 is heavier than the 700R4.....but with a big block in there, looks like weight is not an issue! sounds sweet!

GONE THRU 3 700R4S NOT AGAIN! LEAVE IT ALONE GO 400 STRONGER. I HAVE 350 NOW YOU NEED 400 FOR THE BIG BLOCK IF YOU ARE GOING TO ABUSE IT GO 400.

Yeah, I\'m not going for a 700R4. 4 times and it still broke...I\'m gonna get a TH400 for 560 with a 2800 stall. I\'m still looking for the motor but this weekend I\'m yanking the pos 2.8/700R4 combo and cleaning up/painting the frame and going through the suspension/steering components...
