I read a few posts on header clearence and could not obtain a clear idea on my question.
My steering shaft hits my headers. I have dented them a bit to try for more room. One thread indicated that the engine lifts on the drivers side when power is applied.
Here is two questions, is it a real problem that my headers are resting on the steering shaft. If it does, how much can I dent the header tube before I should worry?

You should be able to move your engine to correct this problem.

Well, I had this proublem. I had to heat the heck out of my headers and move the primary tubes, This was a real bad idea, I lost Lots of power...Also I have seen People move the shaft on the fire wall, It seems to work... But I wouldnt move the motor left or right... I would center the engine... and work from there... Good Luck....

I think it is time to get professional help. I am close to being ready to fire it up and just need some tweaking like the headers. This is my first major work and I wouldn’t want anything to fall off when I need it the most. I will have them check the whole thing over.

If the shaft is touching the headers at rest, yeah, you need to do something, move engine or move the shaft. BTW, moving engine left and right is OK, long as the tailshaft moves the same amount, that is, keeping engine and trans parallel with chassis.
1) What headers?
2) What motor mounts? (adapters)
3) if adapters are adjustable, where are you at? (forward or back, up or down, left or right)
.......... Over the years I\'ve had a few different headers, and 2 different mounts. The only think I never had a problem with was the steering shaft! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

I had the same problem took the column loose and used my die grinder to make the holes elongated to one side where it goes through the fire wall also moved it down slightly this moved the steering shaft and gives plenty of room To answer your question about what will happen if you bind the shaft it will not turn not good http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif

That\'s right, under the wrong circumstances steering binding could make for the scariest moment of your life. And worse yet if you\'ve got power steering, this is all BEFORE the power steering, so yeah, could be scary.
...... Even worse than the engine stalling as you\'re entering a turn.... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif
