Ok so my truck has been dying on me at stop signs pretty bad so I thought it was the fuel pump, so we replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter, But it still does it. And it has a hard time starting up. These are the code\'s I pulled....
32: EGR,Vacuum switch shorted to ground on startup, switch not closed after the ECM has commanded the EGR for a specific period of time or the EGR solenoid circuit is open for a specific period of time. Replace EGR Valve.
33: is still map sensor.
54: M/C Solenoid, Check All Mixture Control Solenoids and ECM wires and connections. The mixture control solenoid voltage is high at the ECM because of a shorted solenoid circuit and/or faulty ECM.
89\' S10 w/ a 4.3L V6 TBI, automatic.

Well lets see... Code 32,33,54.... I think the comuter is trying to tell you that your missing 2 whole cylinders! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
I dont know your answer, just had to make a comment, sorry, http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

What have you done to the truck thus far to attempt and remedy the situation other than fuel pump&filter?
Hard time starting...as in turns over good, just doesnt like to start, or is it turning over slowly?
First thing I would do is take the egr out and clean the piss out of it...use some brake cleaner soak it down...make sure it opens and closes freely....after that, see how the truck runs....If it still doesnt idle right, then make sure the MAP sensor vacuum hose is connected and in good condition....From there I would check the injectors to insure they are both working and spraying a nice uniform pattern into the throttle body...

It turns over fine, it just wont start. And I havent tried anything else yet. Got a EGR and a MAP sensor coming tomorrow.

hmm... i show code 54 as fuel pump ckt low voltage. have you replaced the fuel pump relay?
my tech info shows that code 54 will be set with volts at pin B2 is below 2V for more than 1.5 seconds. a failed relay will throw this code and also cause the hard start. ive seen too many intermittently working and sticking relays in my day. if youre shelling out for MAP sensors and EGR valves, id give a $5 relay a try...

Hrmm...S10blazers.com, is where I got the reference to the code\'s, And it gave 2 differenet meaning\'s for code 54, one being for a carb\'d truck, the other for TBI, which mine is TBI and that\'s the one I posted. But I will def. Check into the relay though. Thanks! I\'ll post up later, I SHOULD have the parts by then.

Could you have a really really bad vacuum leak somewhere? I have an 89 S15 Jimmy w/ a 4.3 auto.......was having a similar prob with it starting/running hard and stalling when I come to a stop. Pulled codes for the egr and the map........replaced both to no avail, turned out I had a vacuum hose laying on an exhaust manifold that was just melted through. Changed that and she purred like a kitten.

I will def. have to check that out. Thanks for the 1 up!

sounds like what mine was doing a few months ago. it would stumble and carry on like a 3 year old. i must have posted 4 or 5 things on here. same thing with a ton of trouble codes too. mine turned out to be my ignition switch. its worth havin a look. i would have ever in a million years thought to check it.

This is where I would start. I would check the connection at the MAP sensor first.

Well tonight I replaced the MAP sensor and the EGR, the EGR\'s diaphram was kinda fubard, but it still has trouble starting. I took it out on a test drive and it still dies at stop signs. Id work on it more, BUT IT GOT STUCK!!!!! so I have to wait till tomorrow to get it out. Im pissed.
Oh, The lines/connection at the MAP sensor were fine. A little dirty, but everything was in good condition.
And I couldnt find any loose vac. lines.

like i said... all the things are good to look for, but wouldnt cause you to throw the code for the f/p. i would definately be running some electrical testing on and around that relay before throwing money at anything else...

Ok I went and checked my timing, It appears to be all the way retarded (the mark is at the very top of the \"scale\". Where does my timing need to be? Also, how do I check the relay\'s and which ones do I check? I need to get a haynes manual quick haha. Here\'s a pic of the only relay\'s ive found. The last one on the left was put there by me trying somethin, I just never took it back out. (its not plugged in or anything.)

on my 97 the f/p relay is in the glove box... ill see what i can find out on your 89.

my diagram only shows 2 relays. its the one on the right, in my pic. it has a bk/wh, dk gn/wh, and OG wires going to it, as well as a few others.
gn/wh is the coil+ and bk/wh the coil-
looks like a tn/wh is the output to the fuel pump, orange being the input.
if you also have a red wire coming off of the 87a terminal, you can follow that, putting 12v on that will perform a fuel pump and ckt test, applying 12v to the pump. if you jump that to B+ and give it a start, itll tell you a bit.

My chilton manual also speaks of a place to test it by using a jumper wire, I cant find it. It\'s SUPPOSED to be on the driver\'s side inside the engine bay, but I cant find it. I dont even see a red wire running from the relay. The only red wires I see are on the firewall, on the passenger side, that looks like a big ground block or something though. Or is that it?

not sure... jump the 87a pin to B+
if its a standard bosch relay, the 87a is the pin on the middle. ck the repay for pin designation first to make sure tho.
