i have done a v8 swap in my 91 s10 and now the brakes are hard as a rock

you have to push the pedal down with all of your strength to get the truck to stop

Does anyone know why this is happening it has brand new calipers and pads

There is a post in the \"General\" catagory by \"Jeffboy\" named \"More brake booster porblems\" Check it out. Your brake booster is probably the problem if you didn\'t swap it out and you may find your problem in the post.

First check the vacuum to the brake booster make sure it is hooked to manafold vacuum port. and how much vacuum you have. If that is ok you need to check your booster to see if it is good. You may have a split in the diafram inside the booster. I have a 91 s10 and mine worked just fine after my swap. The plastic piece that goes into the rubber gromet that your hose hooks to is a check valve. make sure it is working and not plugged. It should allow flow out of the booster not into. I hope this is understandable. Hope it helps.

P/s did you bleed the brakes real good after putting on new calipers? Air in the lines can cause problems.

Also, before the truck is started, pump the brakes up. Then start the truck. Continue to hold your foot on the brakes, they should fall a little when theengine starts. This is helpfull in seeing if the booster is working.

It also depends the size of the cam in your engine. The booster needs 15-18\" of vacuum to opperate correctly, and a big cam with lots of overlap wont allow the engine to create enough vacuum.
