Hi, everyone.

I\'m very new to posting in the forum, though I\'ve read quite a few threads. I\'ll be installing a v8 in a 98+ X-cab in about 3 months. As soon as I get back to the states, my JTR manual should be waiting for me. Anyway, I\'m relatively competent with vehicles, especially electronics. My questions are as follow: Where can I look for fuel injected engines online besides Ebay? (i\'m nervous about ebay) I want to do a swap that\'s as simple and as practical as possible for daily driving, which I believe would be a vortec 5.7 from a fullsize 98+. Should I consider buying a carburated engine for building a reliable daily driver with decent fuel economy?

Thanks a ton.

Fuel injection will get you the best mileage and dependability. 5.7 vortec sounds good.

wild85 and markymark, thanks for your replies. Where should I be looking for a 5.7L vortec? used or new would work.

Thanks.

Car Part.com (http://www.car-part.com)youll be able to find one there........ its a directory of scrap yards in north america. also be able to find a transmission if you need one.

If your 98 X-cab has a 4.3L vortec, your swap will be very simple, if you find a 5.7 vortec from the same year, the wiring should all be the same except you have to add a few extra wires to the harness (I think 6....anyone know for sure???) which is nice because swapping a 5.7 vortec into any pre \'96 vehicle would be a real pain in the ass, you\'d need a high pressure fuel pump, high pressure lines, all the wiring (I believe there are 90+ individual wires on that harness) plus a few other pains in the a$$ I\'m probably forgetting. But if you have the 4.3 vortec already, all that is already present.......the swap is mechanically the same as any of the other swaps done on here.

Thanks, Jimmybeam. I was planning on getting the 4.3 to start with for the reasons you mentioned. I\'m deciding whether to go with an auto or manual tranny. I prefer driving with a manual, but the auto seems a little simpler to install.
