Ok I have looked around the Wrecking Yard, and noticed a wide veriety of Brake boosters on S-10 Pickups. Which is the better of the bunch... I currently have the wide/flat one... Or is there really a differ?

JTR has a nice section on brakes. Do you have a book?

I remember an earlier post about brake boosters...........as I recall people said the brake booster in any truck with a 4.3L engine is the better of the bunch.

I believe the better, 4.3 booster is marked \"ST\"

which trucks have manual brake boosters? or are there any that came with manual brakes? i\'d like to get one for my s10, it came originally with a power brake booster, but with my big cam, there isn\'t enough vacuum to run it.

This may sound dumb, but I am going to try using my booster without hooking it up to vacuum. I\'ll leave the hose off. I noticed the brakes work easy like this. When it is hooked up, it is hard to press the pedal. Any comments??? My cam will not work it either.

I have no idea on what would happen give it a try and let me know... If you want, you can put a vacuum canister on it...

A vacuum canister is usually not associated with the brake booster, unless the brake booster acts as a canister itself. Some look like a 6 inch ball and some look like a small coffee can. Try disconnecting your vacuum line to the booster and see if it works. You need to plug the vacuum line to the valve cover or where ever you have it running. Just try it in your driveway. It works better on my 94. I just have not gone down the road with it yet. Before I disconnected it, I could not put enough pressure on the brake with my foot to stop the truck. I am about 270 lbs.
Edit: I looked in my JTR book and it has the letters ZT for a 4 cyl, BK for the 2,8 and the ST for the 4.3.
This is not in the book, but on the 1994 truck, it is a NT. That is the only one listed for a 94. The 94 is a transition year and has some unique parts.

94 is a second gen in the trucks, still a 1st gne in the blazers.

I think the 94 is a 1.5 gen. I would not do a 94 again.

You will find that if you get a brake booster from an earlier s10 with out ABS it will offer you many benefits. For instance it will be smaller in diameter which will allow you to run tall valve covers for roller rockers, stud girdles etc. and if you have a big cam, you can run the stock vacuum canister with no problems braking.
