Don\'t know how many watched the ESPN movie \"3\"? I thought it was good for a two hour flick, but definately lacking. It just didn\'t do the man justice. I am not one for docu-drama\'s, but this one worthy of one.

I started watching it at 9, for a little bit, then left. Its now 4:15, and I just got home, and its almost in the same exact spot I left it at.

Im not really a nascar fan, but its a pretty good movie so far.

I am not into NASCAR either. I watched it and it made him look like someone to dislike. I don\'t know much about him and wonder how true it is.

Damned, missed it. I\'ll check the listings to see when it will be on again. From the reports, maybe best I don\'t watch it!!

........ I am/was a huge Dale Sr. fan. His driving style was certainly controversial. On a few occasions, he won races using his bumper on the last lap.... making even me embarrassed to be a fan of his.

........ But that said, it is my understanding that he had the respect of all his fellow racers, he was known for his eagerness to give helpful tips to his rookie competitors, and for his generosity.

.......... He was probably the last of the \"old school\" champs.... Straight forward, and at times crude... and who didn\'t give a damned about poltiical correctness... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif That attitude, along with other attributes is likely why I admired the guy.

i watched it. it was good other than being a prick to his kids most of the time until he got in the car and did his thing i agree he waits until the last lap and make you spin out and take the win. which its called racing i guess some people say. but he was taught to be like that from his dad that is if you can call him that. thats just the way i see it. but he loved what he did.nick

They said on the show that NASCAR fined him for causing people to spin out like that.

Actually NASCAR has punished probably half of the active drivers for spinning out other cars at one time or another. However, Dale was the undisputed king of that. But, more likely than spinning you, he\'d just be up your ass so close, so often and unrelenting, he\'d make you sweat bullets, and you\'d let him go by, knowing that if you yourself made the most minor miscue, he\'d have no choice but be into you, and around you\'d go.... Hence the nickname, The INTIMIDATOR. There\'s been plenty of times that Dale would get caught up in one of those circumstances and get taken out himself.

............ In his later years, on a last lap race for the checkered, Dale was purposely spun out (by Ryan Newman?) for the win. After the race, I was surprised to hear Dale basically say \"that\'s racing\"..

........... What Dale was most famous for, especially in his later days, was his uncanny ability to draft & pass on the high speed tracks. He seemed to be able to detect where the low & high pressure areas were in traffic and take advantage of them. He claimed that one of the reasons he disliked using a full face helmet was that by using the old style helmet, his exposed face helped him \"feel\" where he needed to be on the track.

.......... He apparently shared this ability/secret with Dale Jr., as he does pretty well in those circumstances as well.

........... As for Dale Sr\'s Dad Ralph, I only know that Dale had a lot of respect for his father. And it appears that Jr. has a lot of respect of his Dad. Apparently Kerry Earnhardt, although given quite a bit of opportunities, is an OK driver, doesn\'t seem to have the natural talent of Sr. & Jr. Although Kerry does seems to be a spittin\' image of his Dad. I think it is apparent that neither Ralph Earnhardt, nor Dale Earnhardt spoiled their kids. Made \'em work hard for everything.

I think the race you are refering to was Pocono in 2000 maybe. Jeremy Mayfield, then driving the 12 car, knocked him out of the way on the last lap, and Dale lost like 4 positions.

Movie was OK for the average racing fan, or non fan, but could have had way more content to make it more interesting.

He had no problems with bumping you out of the way. If you crashed or spun out, that\'s racing. But, he knew he was fair game for the favor being returned. If he got taken out of the race, you never heard him whining like some of these new kids do.

I heard that Jr puts his right hand slightly out the window to sense the changes. I think it was DW that pointed it out. You have to be pretty stinking good to drive 180 with one hand on the wheel. It helps if you are a little crazy too.

Hey, I finally got to watch that flic last night. I was surprised in that I enjoyed it. I figured that knowing that situations were embellished, distorted, etc. as all movies are, I wouldn\'t enjoy it, but I did. I also enjoyed the 1 hour follow-up tribute.

............ Regarding Shea\'s comment about Jr. sticking his hand out the window @180mph.... sometimes it\'s at over 200 mph! like that makes a difference! .... It\'s insane at either

Oh yeah, meant to mention that on Sat. night, when that movie was premiering, I had forgotten about it and gone out. When I came home and the wife was watching a comedy movie on cable... and I got interested in it. It was called \"Baseketball\", made in \'98. I was amused to see that Dale Sr. had a cameo role as a cab driver... the \"fares\" asked him to speed it up... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif And yeah, the yellow cab had a #3 on the side.

Geez, I hope Junior ain\'t dead! Maybe you\'re thinking of Dale Sr., and his Dad Ralph. Junior is only like 28 yo (or so) right now, drives the #8 Budweiser Chevy for DEI. (Dale Earnhardt Inc.) DEI is a 2 or 3 car Nextel Cup team which is now run by Dale Sr\'s widow Theresa.

........... A fact that I find odd, but no one ever else seems to think much about, is the fact that Dale Earnhardt, while owning his own multi-car race team, DID NOT drive for his own team. Rather, he drove for the last bunch (10?) of years for Richard Childress, (RCR Racing) who Dale became very good friends with. It was strange to see Dale racing side by side with another car that he owned, and he\'s driving a car that is owned by someone else. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif go figure.
